That must have been tough for the editors to report.

I was being facetious because of the reactions from some about financial news I posted a couple days ago.
Basically, we aren't allowed to report anything positive about the economy and if we do, it's just fake news.

Yeah, and whenever anyone posts any news to the contrary its either fake news or libtards praying for an economic collapse.

Funny how that works.

Come on, guys. It is difficult for either side to argue against a strong opening to the Holiday season; especially since all we hear about it is the 'retail apocalypse'.
But people have been shopping later and later over the last decade plus so will be interesting to see if / how much it cools over the next 2 weeks, then ramp back up the week prior to Christmas.

Since the story I posted didn’t either, you shouldn’t have any issue with it then. It claimed indications pointed towards an improving economy in 2020. It made no claims on the state of the current economy.

If Bernie wins and is able to pass M4A and Green New Deal during his 1st term,
What do you think the economy will like like at the end of his 1st term?

While we’re here, let’s clear up some GOP disinfo:
- “It’s 1500 jobs vs 25,000”: The 25,000 jobs figure was a 10-20 year fantasy # from Amazon, not a promise or agreement. In exchange for that lack of commitment, they wanted billions of public $. Their Y1 jobs projection was 700.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
@AOC
Won’t you look at that: Amazon is coming to NYC anyway - *without* requiring the public to finance shady deals, helipad handouts for Jeff Bezos, & corporate giveaways.

Maybe the Trump admin should focus more on cutting public assistance to billionaires instead of poor families.

Well done AOC

U.S. Hiring Strengthened in November, Fueling Expansion

WASHINGTON—The U.S. job market strengthened in November, as hiring jumped and unemployment returned to a half-century low, adding fuel to the economic expansion.

Employers added 266,000 jobs last month—the fastest pace since 312,000 in January—and the jobless rate dipped to 3.5%, matching September as the lowest level since 1969, the Labor Department said Friday. Wages also advanced, up 3.1% from a year earlier.

Awesome news.

Ya, you guys need this bubble to burst badly. I get it.

Otherwise, good luck with Bernie trying to peddle his snake oil.

Wages are rising. Consumer confidence is rising.

Just wait until after the holidays.

Yes. It has been gone over several times. They were not getting any funding, just tax breaks. They were going to take over buildings that have long been abandoned. So while them not paying taxes to the city isn't a good thing them bringing lots of jobs and rejuvenating a portion of the city would be a great thing. So the city is actually behind because all those jobs are now not going to be there, all the construction work will not be there, and all the businesses that would support jobs in that area are not going to be created now. Congrats, you didn't give them a tax break, so you can continue to also still collect 0 taxes from the empty buildings instead of 0 corporate taxes from Amazon.

Yeah, they are going to open an office there. That is nothing in magnitude of the plans they had for a HQ there.

That's the most ridiculous part. "Amazon is still coming here, we win". Ignoring it's the difference in HQ2 vs an office building.

edit: The deal that Amazon offered was directly tied to jobs. The 1.525 billion in tax were directly tied to 25,000 jobs. If there weren't that many jobs, the tax breaks would have been less.

Performance-based direct incentives of $1.525 billion, based on 25,000 full-time, high-paying jobs created. This includes a refundable tax credit of up to $1.2 billion calculated as a percentage of the salaries Amazon expects to pay employees over the next 10 years, which equates to $48,000 per job for 25,000 jobs with an average wage of over $150,000.

— Cash grant of $325 million based on the square footage of buildings occupied in the next 10 years.

— Amazon will also apply for as-of-right incentives including New York City’s Industrial & Commercial Abatement Program and New York City’s Relocation and Employment Assistance Program. There was no dollar figure immediately attached to this benefit.

City Benefits:

— More than 25,000 full-time jobs.

— $2.5 billion investment from Amazon.

— Facilities totaling 4 million square feet, with the potential to double in size.

— Projected incremental tax revenue of more than $10 billion over 20 years.

NY lost out on a ton of taxes not getting HQ2.
