Arsenal fan, eh? I wasn't a fan of any particular team until this year when I went into World Cup withdrawal and wanted a team to follow. I didn't want to choose one of the big 4 or 5 and wanted a team with uniforms I liked. I went with perpetually mediocre Aston Villa.

Also, Southampton...who would've guessed?

Great PL weekend. Things stayed mostly status quo. Arsenal gets their first away win against a top side with a 2-0 handling of City.

Aw yiss. Motha. Fuckin. Ozil.

Looks like Arsenal are the only top side to advance in the F.A. Cup.

And we get Monaco in the Champions League Cup instead of Bayern like every other year.

Theo is back and scoring, Ozil is playing well, Rosicky is the youngest 34 year old in the league, and Arsenal bought a good player at a position of need in January. Something strange is going on.

That was pretty awesome. I watched the highlights and the goals were class. Gotta say, though, Australia was lucky that Son was off of his game. He had several great chances that he just straight up missed.

Also, Aston Villa now has the fewest goals of any team in English football. Not just the EPL but all 8 tiers of English football. If they somehow avoid relegation it will be one of the sillier things to happen in the EPL in a long time.

I hadn't realized that...11 flipping goals so far? I'm not sure I've ever seen a strike rate so poor. I wonder what the EPL record is for least goals/gm

This season is very interesting. A bunch of teams have a legit chance to qualify for Europe.

Starting to get pissed at the FA. They keep scheduling Arsenal's games early as hell. I just got home from work and I have to get up at 7:30 EST to catch the North London Derby.

Oh well, it will only make my hatred for the spuds even stronger.

Well, that sucked. Terrible time for Ramsey and Cazorla to have off games. Giroud was utter **** and Wenger confused me like usual with his subs. Should have subbed Theo Walcott for Giroud instead of Welbeck and Rosicky for Ramsey instead of Cazorla.
Didn't help that the ref was riding the Spur's **** all game long either.

Well FIFA, it's been a good run in terms of lining your pockets with ill-gotten gains, but the party had to end eventually.

Soccer's powerful governing body found itself on the defensive on two fronts Wednesday: one a Swiss investigation into World Cup bidding and the other a sweeping U.S. indictment homing in on what America's top justice official called "corruption that is rampant, systemic and deep-rooted."

Swiss authorities raided FIFA's headquarters in Zurich on Wednesday, the same day they announced an investigation into the last two awarded World Cup bids -- to Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022 -- both of which had come under fire.

But the day's more definitive and, right now, damning action came out of the United States.

That's where the Justice Department announced the unsealing of a 47-count indictment in a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, that detailed charges against 14 people for racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. They include FIFA officials accused of taking bribes totaling more than $150 million and in return providing "lucrative media and marketing rights" to soccer tournaments as kickbacks over the past 24 years.

"The defendants fostered a culture of corruption and greed that created an uneven playing field for the biggest sport in the world," FBI Director James Comey said in a news release. "Undisclosed and illegal payments, kickbacks and bribes became a way of doing business at FIFA."

"The next step in the process is extradition," U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch says of the FIFA investigation.

Glad the US finally stepped up in attempt to put an end to this criminal organization. FIFA is the most powerful sports organization in the world and it's an embarrassment that they allowed themselves to become so corrupted.

Time to clean house over there at FIFA.

I don't follow soccer much, so maybe someone can help me out here;

My only questions are what took so long? And why did it take the US to act? Were we the only one's not in on the scheme or something??

We'll see, Blatter may very well get re-elected. But 7 members of the FIFA exec. committee have been indited already, with more likely coming.

Unfortunately things seem to be so political at FIFA that people will still vote for Blatter, which seems absurd to me.

This is what the hierarchy looks like:

If Blatter is re-elected, I see pretty much no scenario where the positions under him aren't filled with more pawns just looking to line their pockets. A fish rots from the head.

And Blatter comes damn close to the 2/3 number needed in round 1, causing Prince Ali to concede. Let's revisit this when Western Bumblefuck wins the rights to the 2026 World Cup.

As far reaching as this investigation seems to be I'd not be surprised to see Blatter get arrested in the coming months.
