Eh. GB, in the tundra... Cardinals at home. Vikings are better than they get credit for. There's a few tougher than initial reaction matchups.

OK, I forgot the GB game.

But Cardinals and Vikings don't scare me.

Here's a TBT article that digs a little deeper into how those odds were calculated.

IMHO, the fact they weigh in points scored heavily makes their model very suspect to injuries, particularly on teams with little depth. Theoretically, even after adding all these pieces, we could end up with just Evans as a receiver and some new guy off the street at RB again, but odds are against that. Goes for any team that gets a big rash of injuries at a particular skill position.

5-1 division record. That would certainly get the job done.

Apparently, their model has worked very well over the years. ::shrug:: Obviously, there's always some outliers. Let's hope the Bucs are one such outlier this season.

Re: Your Bucs 2017 season end of season record prediction

Postby Mountaineer Buc » Mon May 08, 2017 6:06 pm

We sweep the saints because they are the league worst at giving up passing yards per game and still giving up 100 yards per game on the ground. They made a couple of draft picks in the secondary with Lattimore in the first and Marcus Williams in the second who are solid picks, but opposite Lattimore will be Sterling Moore and opposite Williams will be 2nd year guy Vonn Bell.
The saints just cant get out of the formula that won them the Super Bowl. Big-time, High flying offense. But they forget the defense was pretty decent when guys were getting paid to injure players.

They really did have a solid draft and got some pieces in Free Agency, but its just not enough. We got better faster.

Record 2-0

Carolina also sucked donkey balls on pass defense last year. Free agency for them sucked too (they added the equivalent of a VFW post to the roster), But they had a damned fine draft. They helped Cam Newton with RT stud Taylor Moton, Curtis Samuel zipping around, and the weapon that is Christian McCaffrey. I expect the Panthers to rebound some this year and I think they will end up like we did last year, on the outside looking in with a ton of hope for the future. We split with them with them taking the early meeting.

Record 3-1

I don't think for one second that the Atlanta falcons....you know what they did in the Super Bowl....will have as big a slump as the Panthers. They are just too doggone talented. They struggled against the pass, but not much worse than we did. and they are middle of the road against the run. They beefed up up front on defense adding Dantari Poe in Free agency and drafting Tak McKinley which makes them more stout up front, but they really didn't do enough in my opinion to help that pass D. We have as much a chance of sweeping them as they do of sweeping us. But I think we create too many matchup problems now and they never saw our defense at peak performance last year. We take the division with a dominant performance on Monday Night Football.

Record 5-1

Vs. NFC North

The Bears are a dumpster fire we get to abuse early in the season. It'll be our home opener, and they will get destroyed on a glorious day in Tampa.
6-1

The Vikes had a very good offseason. They unloaded some guys who are over the hill (Peterson, Greenway) added some tackles, and had a really good draft. Still, their whole season is going to hinge on if Teddy Bridgewater makes it back and if Dalvin Cook lives up to the expectations. I think they won't have it all figured out by the time we see them in week three. We win in a game that is closer than we would like.
7-1

The Detroit Lions are going to collapse this season. The net additions/departures just doesn't translate into getting better. They worked on Defense this spring, but they don't scare me and neither dos their running game. On top of that, they have to come to Tampa as the Bucs try to rebound coming off a loss.
8-1

The Green Bay game this season feels like the Dallas game last season. I knew we were going to blow it when the schedule came out. There's just too many variables here not working in our favor. Most notably, Lambeau in December in a game likely to be flexed to prime time since both teams will have good records. This is a game we all want, but Lambeau is gonna do its thing, and Rodgers is gonna do his thing. We lose a heartbreaker in some really cold weather.
8-2

AFC East

The Jets are a dumpster fire. It'll be a slam dunk before going into Atlanta.
9-2

We are going to just plain kick the **** out of the Miami Dolphins. They drafted heavy on defense, but still won't stop the Run. And while we won't be in exactly the perfect position to exploit this with Doug Martin's suspension, I think we are going to see a real nice performance with the rest of the stable getting some touches. McNick might even steal the show. I don't expect much from OJ in this game, But Evans and Jackson will dominate the game. We're just better than they are.
10-2

The Buffalo Bills are as bad stopping the run as the Dolphins are, but were better than you think against the pass. In free agency they signed 657 free agents....okay that's an exaggeration, but they are going to end up turning over nearly half the roster. So last year is out the window when considering the Bills for 2017. It's an evaluation year for coach McDermott to be sure. We will be just getting into midseason form by the time they start figuring out who they are.
11-2

The Champs are gonna champ. It'll look like the Dallas game from last year. We're going to be way too overhyped and will make mistakes that will give the game away. The emperor and Darth Brady will know exactly how to beat us. This one is over midway through the third quarter.
11-3

We will be 3-0 when The New York Giants come to Tampa. They added a bunch of weapons too and this one could turn into a shootout. First loss for the year.
11-4

We owe the Arizona Cardinals one and they know it. We will be coming off of 10 days rest and looking to get back on track. Looking forward to the collision of OJ Howard and Budda Baker. Should be a "Welcome to the NFL" moment for the both of them. We win in the toaster this time.

12-4

Most dominant season we will have seen since we won it all, but we will mostly be taking advantage of a soft schedule. This is rightfully a playoff team, but it'll be the first time for most of the roster. A Super Bowl birth is in the cards, but I'm not so sure the guys are grizzled enough. We could get bounced early.

The Window is open....wide open.

Absolutely. Next year looking like a nice draft class for QBs. Which makes the QB scramble in this years mediocre QB class a little odd. Especially since two of them don't figure to he instant starters.

It's SOOOOO nice having a franchise QB in Jameis. We don't have to worry about rolling the dice on a QB on day 1-2 for the next decade.

Apparently, their model has worked very well over the years. ::shrug:: Obviously, there's always some outliers. Let's hope the Bucs are one such outlier this season.

I expect it to work well in general, as teams getting big rashes of injuries on one side of the ball is uncommon, and getting them at particular skill positions even more so. I'm just saying that I think it probably doesn't work well at all when it does happen.

9-7 again. They sweep the Panthers and Saints, but losing twice to the Falcons costs them a wildcard spot.
