90-year-old Florida man arrested for second time in a week after feeding the homeless again

When 90-year-old Florida resident Arnold Abbott said following his arrest on Sunday that police couldn’t stop him from feeding the homeless, he apparently meant it.

Abbott was charged again on Wednesday night for violating a new city law in Ft. Lauderdale that essentially prevents people from feeding the homeless.

“I expected it" he said in a Sun Sentinel report. “At least this time they let us feed people first.”

Officers lingered in the area for about 45 minutes during which time Abbott and volunteers with the Love Thy Neighbor charity he founded handed out more than 100 plates of hot chicken stew, pasta, cheesy potatoes and fruit salad to homeless men and women.

If he’s found guilty of violating city ordinance laws — his second in a week — he faces 60 days in jail or a $500 fine.

Abbott said he’s prepared to go to jail over his efforts.

“Why do I keep doing this?" he asked rhetorically. "Because these are my people and they deserve to be fed."

In a slightly more confrontational incident on Sunday, four police cruisers and approximately a half dozen officers with the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department descended upon an area in the city where Abbott, charity representatives and church members were handing out hot meals to local homeless people.

One officer demanded that he “drop that plate right now” as others picked up the trays of food and inserted them directly into the garbage with lines of homeless people looking on.

The new law in Ft. Lauderdale comes after the city announced in January that people are restricted from camping, panhandling, food sharing and engaging in other “life sustaining activities." The laws regarding food sharing where ironically enacted on Halloween when millions of people were out sharing candy.

Abbott applauded the officers for being more courteous in their enforcement of the law the second time around this week.

“They were very gentle," Abbott said. "I think they feel a little guilty doing their job."

Um, ew.

Florida Man Accidentally Marries His Granddaughter

Just three months into their marriage, a Florida couple got the surprise of their lives after discovering that the bride was the groom’s biological granddaughter.

According to the Florida Sun Post, the couple - who have requested to remain anonymous - came to the startling discovery while looking through the 68-year-old’s photo albums, which included pictures of his first wife and their children. His 24-year-old wife instantly recognized one of the children as her estranged father, who she says kicked her out of the house when she was a teenager after she’d accidentally gotten pregnant.

As the husband explained to the Florida Sun Post, he and his first wife had gone through a terrible split, and when she left him, she took their kids with her and moved to an undisclosed location. Despite his many efforts to find them, he was never able to, and eventually, he got remarried and started a new family with his second wife. However, that marriage also ended messily - but in a stroke of luck two years later, the 68-year-old ended up winning “several million dollars” in the lottery.

He soon decided he was ready for love again, and after signing up for a dating website, he came across his future wife’s profile.

“I just felt strange when I saw her photos,” the man said. “It was like a sense of déjà vu, but at the time I couldn’t figure out why she seemed so familiar.“

Despite finally figuring it out, however, the couple have decided to stay together, and have no plans of getting divorced.

“If we’d never found out, we would’ve lived out lives happily together, and us being related shouldn’t change that,” the 68-year-old said.

"Every couple is different and special in their own ways,” his wife added.

The number of "legitimate" news outlets that fell for a story put on a website that was created 5 days ago is absolutely hysterical.

Must have been one butt-ugly Christmas sweater.

Dog Mauls Family After They Try to Dress It in a Christmas Sweater

A pit bull mix named Scarface attacked its owner on Friday after she tried to put a Christmas sweater on it, police confirm to PEOPLE.

Police said the dog attacked 52-year-old Brenda Guerrero, biting her arm, in the back yard of her Tampa, Florida, home when she tried to put a Christmas sweater on it, WABC reports.

Guerrero’s husband, Ismael, and their 22-year-old son tried to help the woman but were both attacked by the dog.

“Officers responding said the dog was pretty aggressive,” Eddy Durkin with the Tampa Police Department told WABC. “When they tazed the dog, the dog was still pulling away and was able to release the prongs from the tazer.

The couple’s son reportedly stabbed the dog in an effort to stop the attack, WFLA reports.

All three escaped the house, leaving the dog in the backyard, according to WTSP. They were all reportedly treated for their injuries at a local hospital, with authorities calling Guerrero’s serious but not life-threatening.

Animal Control officials responded to the scene and shot the pit bull with a tranquilizer gun, according to WTSP. The dog managed to get into the home, where there were two children present.

Authorities eventually managed to subdue the dog using a bean bag gun and stun gun and captured it with a catch pole, WTSP reports.

It is unclear whether the dog will be euthanized.

A Florida woman has died after being shot by a homeowner while searching the neighbourhood for her lost dog.

The victim, Rebecca Rawson, 65, was fatally injured after approaching the armed householder's home on Tuesday night, say sheriff's officials.

As her relative knocked on the door, Eugene Matthews, 83, emerged firing a handgun, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Ms Rawson was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

Officials say that Ms Rawson and her daughter waited in their car as her brother-in-law knocked on Mr Matthew's door to ask if he had seen their dog.

Police say Mr Matthews opened his door and started shooting at the family.

As she sat in the car, Ms Rawson was struck by a bullet that went through the windscreen.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged Mr Matthews with second-degree murder.

He is expected to appear in court later on Wednesday.

Such a well written piece.

Florida Man Says He Stole $7 Billion Because Jesus Wants Him To Be Wealthy
Jesus may be a savior, but he’s a terrible alibi.

A Florida man accused of making $7 billion in fraudulent wire transfers told the court he stole the money because Jesus wanted him to be wealthy.
Polk County Jail

Authorities arrested John Michael Haskew, of Lakeland, in mid-December after he allegedly set up the wire transfers on Dec. 9 and 10 from what the criminal complaint described as “a large, nationally renowned financial institution.”

Haskew, who was unemployed, needed to pay off a debt to the federal government, prosecutors said.

His alleged scheme was to provide a bank routing number that wasn’t his, according to NBC Miami.

Haskew used that routing number to make more than 70 transactions worth more than $7 billion.

According to the complaint, Haskew told agents he was “self-taught on the banking industry,” including how to make the fraudulent wire transfers.

Haskew allegedly told investigators that he believed he deserved the money, stating that “Jesus Christ created wealth for everyone,” according to WFTV.com.

Investigators said Haskew told them he believed his wire transfer scheme would allow him to “obtain the wealth that Jesus Christ created for him and that belonged to him,” the complaint said.

Jesus was unavailable for comment on this matter.

As part of a plea deal, Haskew pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of making a false statement to the federal government, according to NBC Miami.

No, the false statement wasn’t the one where he said Jesus told him to steal $7 billion.

Haskew could serve up to five years in prison and be ordered to pay a $250,000 fine, according to the Associated Press.

A Jupiter, Florida, man was arrested for throwing a live alligator into a Wendy’s restaurant drive-through east of Loxahatchee, according to WPTV.

Joshua James, 23, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegally killing, possessing or capturing an alligator, and second-degree larceny petty theft, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.

He has not been released on bail as of Monday afternoon. WPTV reports that the incident occurred in October, but James had just been arrested recently by U.S. marshals.

Officials with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told WPTV that James pulled up for his order, and after a server handed a drink and turned around, James tossed the 3 1/2-foot gator into the drive-through window.
