God, I'd be so pissed if this was the Bucs' draft. How about trading down and acquiring some additional picks?

If the Bucs take him, I think it means they were bluffing in their confidence in Donovan Smith, and Smith would be the one you shift inside to guard. I don't think it's a likely pick though.

Or maybe Smith/Ram goes to RT..

I completely disagree with your assessment of Ram. So I'm not going to debate this premise.

I haven't really watched a ton of Ram, watching tape of olinemen doesn't interest me much within this hobby, so I could certainly be wrong. But from what I have seen of him, it was his pass protection at LT that stood out to me, and I think if you draft him, you draft him to be that guy.

While it doesn't mention him at guard, it does show that his strength is run defending. That said, I wouldn't really say Pass Pro is that much of a weakness. He can get better, but it's not like it would be a liability. Though...I think MB is the first to reference him as a guard. Color me intrigued.

Could be. Though then what happens with Dotson?

19: R1P19 OT RYAN RAMCZYK WISCONSIN. I like him to take over at Guard for Marpet. Solid interior line now.
50: R2P18 EDGE DEMARCUS WALKER FLORIDA ST We haven't talked much about Walker. I'm surprised the FSU guys have been quiet about him.
84: R3P20DL JALEEL JOHNSON IOWA Dudes. Awesome value here.
124: R4P19 TE BLAKE JARWIN OKLAHOMA ST Not a guy I have paid any attention to before. He's got the size, but does he have the speed and hands?
163: R5P18 S LORENZO JEROME SAINT FRANCIS (PA) LOVE this. Senior Bowl standout.
205: R6P20 RB JAMES CONNER PITTSBURGH If he needs it, he can ride the PUP list while Martin, Sims, and Quizz, carry the rock.
240: R7P19 WR FRED ROSS MISSISSIPPI ST I told you guys there was value @ WR in the back end of this draft.
Caradoc wrote:I wouldn't be opposed to getting OL help but I think that is unlikely to happen. Benenoch was a guy who was supposedly a huge steal, some had a 3rd round grade on him, and some though he could push to be a round 1 or 2 pick if he had stayed in school another year. I think the team is going to give him a shot before drafting. They are also fairly high on Gottschalk, and somewhat on Wester. I don't think the team feels the OL is the problem fans seem to think.
And to people "drafting" Mixon, just stop. He will never be on this team. Not just his own crap, but he brings bad press onto Winston too, keeping that Kinsman BS from fading away. So just let it go.
Cheb wrote:Time for another one. I just can't help myself. Firstpick, no trades. I was operating under the dismal (and possibly correct) presumption that we aren't going to draft anyone on the offensive line, believing that if we add to the skill positions and defense that we will improve our win total. I don't agree with this idea, but here we go!
Round 1 Pick 19: O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama (A). Big dude, great hands, great speed, excellent blocker, can win 1v1 versus a defensive end either run or pass blocking, team-first attitude, excellent character, able to play in tight or split out wide. Has everything you want but elite collegiate stats. A slam dunk and reliable selection, will bail Winston out several times a game.
Round 2 Pick 18: Isaiah Ford, WR, Virginia Tech (A-). The more I watched of Ford, the more I liked. I didn't realize how tall he was (6'2"), or how much he was underthrown in college (damn near every snap), or how easily he got open (all the time). He isn't very dynamic after the catch, and his route running needs some more finesse, but he honestly has excellent ability. I watched three games of his this afternoon and I was impressed.
Round 3 Pick 20: Adoree' Jackson, CB, Southern California (A+). We like corners small, fiesty, and absurdly athletic. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Adoree Jackson from USC. This All-American and team captain won the Thorpe Award this year as the best DB in college football. He is stupid athletic, a two-time All-American in track as a sprinter and longer jumper, with his best long jump going almost 26 feet. He was a big reason why USC upset Washington, intercepting Jake Browning twice during that game. Oh, did I mention he also returns kicks, with four kickoff return TDs to go with four punt return TDs in his career? Oh yeah, he can also play on offense, with 6 offensive TDs to his name as well. He needs to work on the subtleties of cornerback play, relying on pure dynamite athleticism instead of actually being a good cornerback. But if you stick him at one position (corner), and he gets the discipline to lock that position down? Jackson guy can be the next Darrell Green if he takes football seriously.
Round 4 Pick 19: DOnta Foreman, RB, Texas (A). He was there and I couldn't help myself. A 2000 yard rusher from a power 5 conference? SIgn me right up! He's huge, he's fast, and he's very productive. While he doesn't showcase his power as much as you'd think for a guy his size, and while his pass blocking is shall we say needing improvement, he has literally everything else you want in a running back. As a rookie, he's in the backfield rotation, and he has the possibility to be The Man in a short period of time.
Round 5 Pick 18: Josh Carraway, DE, TCU (A+). I like this guy. He's a poor man's Leonard Floyd, as a point of reference. He was a good pass rusher on a bad team, and he will get better with better coaching. His stance is putrid; he doesn't even line up consistently. He sits at the line of scrimmage more than you'd like and plays paddycake. But when he fires off, hot dog, it's fun to watch. He's too light in the ass to be an every-down end (only 6'3", 241lb), but he offers alot as a situational rusher. He reminds me of our own Noah Spence. Give him a year or two in a good strength and conditioning program so he can set an edge that doesn't make you wince, then slap him in a wide-9 alignment on rush downs and tell him to speed rush like a mother. He's fast. Unrefined, but you can't teach that speed. He also offers good reps on special teams. Maybe you think he's a LB instead of a DE, but I don't see the instincts, just like I didn't with Floyd.
Round 6 Pick 20: KD Cannon, WR, Baylor (B+). He comes from that goofy-ass Baylor offense, but Cannon has talent. I know, he's skinny and he's very finesse and he drops the ball alot (9 drops this year) and he catches with his body vs with his hands and he runs a limited route tree, but this is the sixth round, friend. At this stage, ain't nobody is perfect. But Cannon, despite all those negatives, still had 1200 yards and 13 TDs this year. The man can play ball. He's a situational guy at this point, but just like Carraway he can offer some snaps on special teams and he gives Winston another weapon. Adding Cannon in addition to Ford would make WR a possible strength for us going forward, depending on how free agency shakes out.
Round 7 Pick 19: Brandon Bell, OLB, Penn State (A-). Brandon Bell is a strongside linebacker at the professional level, although you could argue middle linebacker as well. He isn't that big or that fast or that strong. He's decent in pass coverage, decent as a blitzer, decent shedding blocks. But what I love is that he's a playmaker. I saw him in two games where he was everywhere, versus Ohio State and versus Michigan State. He had 19 tackles versus Ohio State and 18 versus Michigan State. You read that correctly. That's a shitton. Bell gets the ballcarrier on the ground, and that's an underrated thing, believe it or not. Bell has grit in spades, "juice" as Gruden would call it. He loves football. I don't know if he would make the team, but he could definitely be a practice squad dude. Or who knows, maybe he beats out Daryl Smith. He would definitely contribute to special teams, that's for sure.
