That appears to be the official response from the White House...

Trump said he was initially considering whether to implement a temporary waiver of the Jones Act to allow it, but decided against doing so as "a lot of people that work in the shipping industry…don’t want the Jones Act lifted."

It's pretty frustrating that his supporters don't hold him accountable.

You, Clewy, and Corsair got it covered. Ya'll are doing an amazing job with your new found direction in life. The poor are going to get rich now, law enforcement is going to get trained where people know they dont have to do what they are told, we will continue to bring in illegals to show how nice we are and to continue growing a wonderful Muslim population. Plus while were at it we ought to go ahead and increase our debt to about a 2 trillion increase per year.

And evacuees will have their passports held for ransom until they pay full price of transportation off the island. I'm sure they're also doing the same for all those people rescued off their roofs in Houston, too.

Huh? We are talking about Puerto Rico right? Why do they need passports to travel unless they are evacuating to foreign country/non US territory?

Getting flights out of PR is tough right now due to the demand. But I just spoke to my sister-in-law a few days ago that was able to book a flight and arrange to get some of her family off the island next week.

Are you suggesting helicopters transport people from PR to the US mainland?

Asking you to clarify why Americans require passports if they are not traveling outside of the US or its territories is not trolling.

I haven't seen any news on citizens having their passports held for ransom. Do you have an article or link?

How was that a troll response?

Why should they not pay full price of transportation off the island? Who's fault is it if they are? The airline companies for not having a soul (or at least the awareness to go on a human-rights focused ad campaign where they lowered their prices to get everyone off the island and then told everybody how great they are for doing it) or the government for not, either, a) forcing the airline companies to pay less, or b) fronting the cost itself?

Why is this the government's fault?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you live on a volcano, and the volcano blows once a year, and you understand that, and you still live there, shouldn't you accept that your choices have consequences and that your house might get engulfed in lava because you're living on a volcano?

If you live in the caribbean, part of living there is accepting the inherent risk, that, during 1/3 of the year, every year, you are at an extremely high risk of experiencing a hurricane, and along with your choice to live there, comes the consequences of that risk.

Why the **** must "daddy" bail these adult human beings, with functioning brains, out every time something bad happens. Where the **** is the catholic church? where the **** are all these noble entities that exist in a free market capitalistic society that is supposed to take care of it?

Instead of capitulating every time, and spending billions of dollars every year on the same old bullshit, bailing people out, how about we stop, and expose the failures of the free market to take care of these kinds of situations. This one leg in, one leg out approach creates a relationship where people are encouraged to act without personal responsibility (i.e. not having insurance, i.e. not ****ing living there) because they know if the **** hits the fan, daddy will come save them

We either live in a capitalistic society and don't bail people out, and let the "free market" fix things (or not, and let it's shortcomings be exposed, and then potentially rectified by playing within that framework)

or we live in a socialist society and we do. Blending the two leads to a clusterfuck of a blame game where we spin our tires, point fingers, and don't ever progress in either direction

Where did I say the passport was required for travel between PR and continental US? Just saying the US government is restricting the passports of anyone evacuated until such time that they pay the government for their "transportation" in full. You know, the way one normally would do for humanitarian aid.

Ok then, why do you think? Your question is broad. Are you asking why, logistically? or why do people care less? or why the government is approaching it differently?

You're a smart guy, why don't you come up with the story yourself?

Saw that. I was very happy to see that the media got him to cave. For as terrible as the media is, they are good for things like this. And like when they didn't let Trump get away with stealing that $6 million that people donated to veterans.

lmfao there's a big ****ing surprise. The big cheeto can dish out as much **** as he can shovel out of that big mouth of his but someone speaks out and the witch hunt is on. The ***damn businesses and corporations must love this guy. They could literally build the New World Order right under our noses and not even realize it while this dipshit will have the entire world talking about what he's saying on Twitter. It would be Wag The Dog all over again.

Nazis protest....Some of them are fine people.
Black people protest...Sons of bitches should be fired!

Hurricane relief for Florida and Texas...You got it!
Hurricane relief for disaster in Puerto Rico...Meh maybe give them a little bit when I feel like it, but plenty of time to argue with local officials.

Trump supporters...fine with it all.
