So what do you all make of these Cal-Exit plans?

Postby Zarniwoop » Wed Apr 25, 2018 8:15 am

Several different plans are being tossed around about California either being broken up into 2 regions (rural vs coast) or 3 regions (L.A. area, S.F. Area, S.D. area) or even secession plans (one just go the go ahead to starting collecting signatures to put it on the ballot https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/20 ... proval-co/).

I think they are all pipe dreams as none of them will happen without an act of congress (and there is no way that congress would agree given that each party will have to think they are coming out better for it)....well I suppose California can secede with threat of war and not go through Congress.

1.) Do you have any opinions on which of the three (2 state, 3 state, exit) you would like to see happen if one could actually happen

2.) Thinking in more general terms -- do you think that states that have huge populations like this (CA, TX, NY, IL, FL), should be broken up so as to get their people more direct representation? We really haven't changed the structural nature of the way we vote significantly for a long, long time (sure we rearrange the # of delegates, but that is fairly minor in the big picture).

You've been looking for things to grumble about lately.

No I see no need to break up any states.

Eastern Washington bitches about Seattle, The panhandle bitches about Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Upstate NY bitches about the city.....etc. to ad nauseum.

My reply was a little to flippant. Sorry.

Proportional representation is an idea that's been floated around for a while that I like. It does away with gerrymandering districts and makes the HOR more reflective of the people and how they vote.

Reminds me of a few years ago when Texas secession was getting tossed around. Nothing will come of it.

At least then it was the whole state that wanted to secede, and not just a couple crackpots talking about breaking up the state.

Let them secede, then charge them $10.00 a gallon for water.

Actually...They have water, but the rich own the water. Watched this documentary recently. It was really interesting. It's on Netflix.

And that doesn't even mention the **** that Nestle does in CA. They pay $500-600 a year to pump out millions and millions of gallons to bottle from National Forest land...even if the state is on fire.
