Some big news today for starters.... I'm sure missed it..

U.S. Gained 200,000 Jobs in January as Wages Picked Up

Average hourly earnings for private-sector workers rose 2.9% in January from a year earlier

https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-gained ... 1517578320

Slightly better than expected...

Google hiring thousands in 9 states...

Tech giant Google plans to hire thousands of new employees across the country to fill openings in either expanded or new offices, according to a Google earnings call on Thursday.

The nine states where Google is hiring include Colorado and Michigan.

Per CNN: “There's been increased attention on tech company hiring in the United States, and political pressure to invest and create jobs locally.”

If you think this is good, wait until the minimum wage hits $10.

Was -1597 at its worst. Bounced back a little, but that bounceback died, too. Biggest intraday point drop in history.

It's not that bad either. This is something that many predicted and really isn't that big of deal overall, especially considering how high the market was. It may dip even more tomorrow, but the economy is still strong, it'll be fine.

If not, I'll be wrong.

I think we're about 18 months out from being due for another recession. I'd love to be wrong, and there's nothing to suggest this event is the catalyst for one, but it does concern me.

Why do you think that other than pessimism?

I went to a conference this weekend and there was an NCUA economist there who listed the potential market and economic threats for the future. After a long conversation with him, he doesn't believe that there's a imminent recession on the horizon currently. Not that it really means much.

The timeframe for recessions tend to run every 6-10 years. I'm not surprised economists are fine with things right now, but if this selloff keeps up, they could change their tune.

Another reason for the Government to heavily scrutinize M&A and block as many as practicable. The more top heavy a sector of the economy gets, the greater the likelihood shenanigans or corrections can nuke a whole sector. In the event of a recession, the strain is best spread over as many firms as possible to slow layoffs.

It's ok. Hannity has explained on his radio show that, after crediting Trump for the rise in the market under Trump, this fall is totally the fault of the Obama economy because rates were too low. Now filthy socialist liberals like MB and I will claim that the threat of rising rates spurred this drop because many people moved their money into bonds and we point at silly things like the rising volatility index, but hey, what do we know?
