The only stuff they offshore is the Asain stuff....they build it in Asia to be sold in Asia. Almost all vehicle producers do this now. All the Japanese and German companies assemble in the US now. It’s absolutely a smart thing to do

They don’t make their bikes overseas to ship them back here.

———-

As for stock buy backs, I absolutely think they should have used that money in R&D for the newer generation. But I don’t think they saw it as an either/or. They were just ridiculously short-sighted.

I'll agree that it's not a well run organization that is currently on borrowed time.

I don't have a bike because it's not useful to me. It's not my thing.

Couple this with millenials not riding nearly as much as previous generations and its easy to see they are still in serious trouble.

Agreed. Add to that Jap and Euro manufacrurers pumping out comparable bikes at a fraction of the cost...

Simple supply and demand.

Add to it the 60% plus tariffs that countries like Thailand have and they would be downright stupid not to do it

I’m a sportbike guy, not a cruiser guy so I’m biased...but the styling and lightweight of the Jap and Euro stuff is probably infinitely more attractive to millenials then the HD stuff. It’s a shame HD didn’t capitalize on the Buell brand they bought a while back. They had bikes that younger folks would have liked

Sears is closing more stores as sales shrink for the 26th quarter in a row. The latest round affects more than 60 locations...

Still remember reading my grandmother's Sears & Robuck catalog back in the 70's.

End of an era, indeed.

That is great news indeed..

The economy added 223,000 jobs, better than economists expected, with unemployment matching its lowest point in half a century...

Good stuff.

Folks....you won’t be in more demand then you are right now. Those that aren’t happy with their wages, benefits, hours, etc....if there has ever been a time to look around its now.

Remember companies arent going to simply offer you more money (usually)...force their hand!! Get another offer or two.

Always happy to hear that unemployment is down. I'm always skeptical about wage increase numbers. I'm more interested in the wages of say the bottom 50-90% and what those numbers are in relation to inflation.

"The US economy has this incredible head of steam," said Josh Wright, chief economist at software firm iCIMS. He said workers were starting to feel the effects of last year's tax cut.”

while I agree people are in demand I would say they should be leery of created positions or overlay positions, as everyone is fat dumb and happy right now. if it shifts, those will be the first cuts

That’s always a risk as most people don’t have guaranteed contracts.

If this was a recent trend, I would agree. Since the unemployment rate has been dropping at the same steady rate for the past decade, it's not really an artificial employment number at this point.

The addition of seasonal workers always tends to tighten up the unemployment figures which is always good.

Median wages up 2.7% is also good.

As of April, the CPI is up 2.1% year on year, so median wages are outpacing inflation by less than 1%. Not so good.

1Q GDP was revised down to +2.2% and projections for 2Q 2018 are +3% for an average GDP growth of 2.6%

To summarize:
2018 Inflation adjusted wage growth +0.6%
2018 projected GDP growth outpacing inflation adjusted wage growth by 2%
Bottom 50% of wage earners receiving 23% or less of all economic growth.
Inflation adjusted federal minimum wage is $6.25 per hour.

You have to go back at least a decade to have as numbers as good as we have now across all these dimensions

The global financial crisis of 2007-2008? Probably want to go back further.

Yes, ten years or more. So at your "least" designation of ten years, we were in a financial crisis. Had you said at least 12 years you'd be closer, but then you'd be in a time period that the markets were found to be artificially inflated which led to the crash.

Trump or no Trump, we're just about due for another recession.

Cyclical nature of the economy. It's only a matter of what sector blows up.

Here...this should help make our liberal contributors feel better...

Washington Free Beacon:

"May's jobs report shows that strong employment numbers mean little to the families hit with soaring new costs under the Republicans' watch," Pelosi said in a statement.

"Republicans' cruel, cynical health care sabotage campaign is already spiking families' premiums by double digits and pushing millions off their coverage, according to the nonpartisan CBO," she went on. "Big Pharma continues to hoard the benefits of the GOP tax scam, using their handouts to further enrich executives and shareholders instead of lowering prescription drug costs for seniors and sick kids. At the same time, the President's reckless policies are exploding gas prices, wiping out the few meager gains that some families should have received from the GOP tax scam, as wages remain stagnant." ~ Nancy Pelosi

Pelosi is the Democratic version of Trump - every time she opens her mouth she’s the gift that keeps on giving to the opposing side

One of the biggest hypocrites in politics (and that’s saying something given the shitheads we have in DC)
