In the ongoing battle between Trump and the MSM, do you think that dinner was a win for the media?

Considering the collective whining all day, yeah.

I'm sure the talking heads had a great time with it today.

These snowflakes are whining about a little roast at the WHCD and how it's unfair how mean the media is to Trump...Like this is something new that didn't happen when Obama was in office? LOL!! The only real difference is that Trump is too much of a ***** to show up.

so to be fair.. at this point I no longer know what party is being referred to when the term 'snowflake' is thrown around.

a bit off topic, but kind of related seeing how this is why Trump was not at the WHCD.. has there ever been a president that never stopped campaigning? I'm confused why he keeps needing to have these rallies.. I mean outside of fueling his narcissism.

A snowflake is someone who gets enraged over the tiniest slight or criticism. Think SJWs for the left and the actual, indoctrinated MAGA spergs for the right. And I'm not referring generally to Trump supporters there, but a subset of them.

If you can’t see a difference in how the WHC treated Obama and treat Trump there is no where to begin with you.

Every president in my lifetime has been treated worse then the previous particularly by the MSM and opposing party. I honestly can’t fathom how anyone who isn’t blinded by teamsmanship could argue this.

And it’s not just presidents either. It’s people in general. Society is far more crass and extreme then it has ever been. In order to have the same “shocking effect” people have to get more histrionic and extreme

I've never read Marx, but I have read Sowell.

Sowell makes me want to read Marx.

I can quote the bible too, doesn't mean I've read it cover to cover ;)

I've read about Marx, but I'm told the Manifesto is a dull read.

The real problem is that Americans really don't understand what Communism is, so anything that involves governmental control over anything is labeled Communist. Well, nowadays it's Socialist but they mean the same thing.

I’d agree that most people don’t understand communism.

I think the modern application of socialism is generally a good one

The substitution of socialism for communism in political and economic discourse being more accurate is what I think he was saying.

I won't disagree with that, I just get the feeling that most of the people who cry socialism before even examining a proposal are using it as a dog whistle like communism was used in the past.

Oh my god I'm high as ****.

Yes I think when most people say something is socialist, they are often using the term correctly

When most people talk about communism they are often using the term incorrectly.

I wanted to help clarify for MB because I was afraid he thought you were approving of the application of actual socialism, which would be pretty hilarious.

I did, so did many others. I supported Bernie b/c he was a political outsider hated by the DC establishment and ran on a platform of changing how 'business' is done DC. I believe we agreed on that iirc. But I was never a fan of Bernie's big government socialist ideas and stated as much in the Bernie thread during the primaries.

Once Bernie caved, I decided to vote for Trump. As did many others. I'm just not a coward about it.

It might be semantics, but I actually supported Bernie's candidacy where I donated money and even switched my voter registration to vote in the Florida Democratic primary, whereas I just voted for Trump in the general.

Communism is a more extreme version of Socialism - They are both forms of collectivism - Collectivism is antithetical Individual liberty - Individual liberty is the bedrock principle the United States was founded on

That's an extreme oversimplification that leaves out so much nuance it's almost criminal. True communism requires the surrender of most personal wealth and property along with many rights. It's an ideological system the same as any. Socialism is more of an economic concept than it is ideological. For example, we have socialist infrastructure programs, education, military service, law enforcement, etc. That's why socialism can be compatible with capitalism and the two can coexist while capitalism and communism are completely incompatible.

Both of your descriptions suit me fine. Communism does extend beyond basic economics as Outsider notes but DN's description of it certainly isn't wrong as well....on the economic side it is clearly the extreme version of a mixed economy like socialism.

In their abstract no country as far as I know ever practiced the theoretical abstract versions of capitalism/free-market or communism/central planning. Everyone is somewhere in between.

As Outsider said, we have lots of industries and/or markets where government plays a massive role in the US....but I still think we are much closer to the free enterprise system than say the Scandinavian countries...but we certainly aren't exclusively free market.
