Favorite Republican Presidential Candidates

Postby Zarniwoop » Fri Dec 01, 2017 1:58 pm

I'm bored while I'm eating lunch, so I thought I would review all the presidential primary candidates since I was first able to vote and see if I could make some sort of list which were my favorites (after the initial post). I'll start with the R list, then do another thread for the D.

I am putting the major candidates, if someone wants to add a more minor one, have at it...I am just listing a candidate in the first election they gained a decent vote size in

1992
George HW Bush
Pat Buchanon
Ross Perot

1996
Bob Dole
Steve Forbes
Lamar Alexander

2000
George Bush
John McCain
Alan Keyes
Elizabeth Dole
Jack Kemp

2008
Mike Hukabee
Mitt Romney
Ron Paul
Fred Thompson
Rudy Giuliani

2012
Rick Santorum
New Gingrich

2016
Ted Cruz
Marco Rubio
John Kasich
Donald Trump
Ben Carson
Rand Paul

Coming up with a top 5 is obviously difficult....the most difficult thing being how society has changed...IMO what we need now from a president a bit different from 10 years ago or 20 years ago...as everything is basically cyclical. So I'm making my list on a blend of their policy positions (as stated at the time) as well as our current environment.

I think this would probably be my top 5

1.) Ron Paul
2.) Newt Gingrich
3.) Jack Kemp
4.) Rand Paul
5.) Paul Thompson

This is somewhat off-topic but I went to some classes for work at Michigan St. They put up a chart that was basically "how much do you trust the federal government?" (from polls or something). Of course, the number is nearing an all-time low right now. But it was at an all-time high with George W. Bush.

Found it...idk how to embed but here's the link. http://www.people-press.org/2017/05/03/ ... 1958-2017/

Obviously it eroded with Bush over his tenure. And I guess it wasn't an all-time high but the highest since the 1970's. Reagan and Clinton are the only ones since the 60's where it actually trends upward over their term.
