Right as I don't think mass proliferation is something that can be proven to be correct, nor is it realistic.

While this story is, indeed, tragic, I'm not sure when the shooting of two people became a random mass shooting.

mass shooting
The discharging of firearms multiple times by one or more parties into a group of unarmed victims
Examples
Fort Hood, TX, November 2009—13 dead
Virginia Tech, April 2007—32 dead
Columbine High School, April 1999—17 dead

You don't think inside a school is "a group of unarmed victims"?

Wouldn't all shooting be mass shootings? We're all made of matter, and therefore have mass.

Also church shootings should always qualify.

2 people is a pair not a group, no?

The FBI defines mass shooting as 4 or more, but it really doesn't matter.

That's the number injured by gunfire. That's not what Buc2's definition said.

The discharging of firearms multiple times by one or more parties into a group of unarmed victims

The discharging of firearms multiple times - two people were shot, so I'm pretty sure we've got this part covered

by one or more parties - they have a suspect in custody, so the gun was not fired by a ghost

into a group of unarmed victims - this goes back to my question - You don't think inside a school is "a group of unarmed victims"?
Three others were also injured as the result of "peripheral stuff," bringing the total number of patients to five,

These three other people (and possibly others who were not injured) were presumably at least in the vicinity of the shooting.

If you guys are really so against this story being posted in this thread, I can just start a "random school shooting" thread. There would be plenty of action in there. We've had at least three so far this year.

Calm down, I said it doesn't matter, we've had this discussion before. I just pointed out by the FBI definition it's 4 or more killed by a gun as the two of you seemed to be in a disagreement. That's not the only definition. This would only matter if you were showing "mass shooting stats" and using this in your numbers. It's fine in this thread.

Spin it however you like. Post it wherever you like. I just think you'd be hard pressed to find any law enforcement agency or even a media outlet that would describe this as a mass shooting.

I get it, though. Guns are terrible. The availability of guns is alarming. But, since posting about every bad gun story in the news is not feasible, and waiting around for the next real mass shooting might take too long, you've chosen to focus on shootings that evoke the most emotion from people...school shootings. Didn't mean to interrupt your crusade. Carry on.

Oh, and before you go there, yes...I find the loss of innocent life a tragedy. Especially young lives.

Sounds like the shooting was accidental. This child should not have had access to the firearm and also should have been educated on proper use of a firearm.

The two 15-year-olds, one boy and one girl, were transported to a local trauma center after the shooting. The boy was listed in critical but stable condition from a gunshot wound to the head, and the girl was listed in fair condition after being shot through the wrist, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

A seventh-grader who was in the classroom at the time of the shooting said he believed the shooting was accidental. "They thought it was a toy gun, but then it shot," Benjamin Urbina said, describing a "big pop" after the firearm went off.

The boy said the girl who was holding the gun "didn't mean to" shoot the 15-year-old girl who was injured.

I dont even know what the point of this thread is... lol

And why are we keeping this to just shootings? Do all crimes against the masses count, or just shootings?

Can we keep track of all murders in the US here? Do the killings have to happen all at once, or can we add gang killings, drive by's, random stabbings, etc??

Thanks in advance.

The point is, if it weren't for guns, no one need die. All they do is get good people in trouble.

My brother goes this school. He’s fine so thank god

Deputies are on the scene of what they say is a shooting at a school in South Florida.

According to WSVN in Miami, the Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The conditions of the victims and the status of the shooter was not immediately available.

The school remains on lockdown.

Person of interest has been apprehended, looks like a loser based on his social media. But that hasn't been verified and he may be the shooter.

I see the gun control advocates are already at it. I think we all agree these school shootings are happening way too often for no action to be taken. But here is my question, what gun control measures would prevent a school shooting?
