I'd like to piggyback a bit on one the things you said. Where you mentioned you felt they'd really de-nuclearize for a period of time. If that happens, I think it would more likely wind up turning into a permanent de-nuclearization. Why? Say they do de-nuke. Sanctions are lifted and boat loads (literally) of much needed goods come pouring into Iran. On top of that, much needed finance and other services come in to help them with new infrastructure and medical care for their people. The people will be rejoicing and throwing love at their Dear Leader more than ever. Hassan Rouhani will be very pleased at the ego stroking he's receiving and want that to continue. If he were to go back to the same old, same old, the sanctions come back. This time, however, the people would have had a taste of prosperity and likely be much more forceful in denying a return to the past. Hassan Rouhani would be stupid to go back.

So, no. I'm not ready to say that they will only de-nuke long enough to get some goods and then go right back to the way things were. If anything, seeing how things improved, I think that would be enough of an incentive to continue the peace.

Interesting times to be sure.

Now take everything you just said and apply it to the Iran nuke deal.

I did and replaced Iran w/ NK and Hassan Rouhani w/ Kim. It doesn't make much sense. Read for yourself and tell me what I'm missing?

The fact that Iran is already denuclearized and has 32x the GDP of NK are two major differences.

There is also the threat Iran poses in the region (specifically to Israel) without any hint at peace. Whereas NK is really only a threat to South Korea and maybe Japan. But over the past year Kim has met with President Moon and had peace talks that we haven't seen before. So as long Kim continues this current diplomatic approach and doesn't revert back to his families traditional isolated approach I think we should continue as we are while being fully aware of the history of that family.

All we've done for NK/Kim at this point is provide him some good PR. But after him meeting w/ Moon, releasing our American hostages, and agreeing to the framework of more specific and actionable denuclearization deal I don't think a public meeting was beyond the pale by any means. Kim has made concessions to get to this point.

It's just premature to judge NK against the Iran deal at this point imo. There is no definitive deal w/ checks in place yet w/ NK to compare to and as someone just mention no pallets of cash or access to the US banking system has been offered.

Is that what is happening here? Could you cite some posts from today on this topic that you're sourcing for this opinion?

Maybe I'm misreading some posts, but has anyone declared some type victory here that I missed? :?

All I've seen here is some cautious optimism at most. I think that is ok considering the potential outcome of what was a somewhat historical event. Kim meeting with Moon at the demilitarized zone a few weeks back was historic and so was him meeting with the POTUS yesterday. We'll see what happens moving forward, but these are positive steps compared to the failed diplomacy of recent decades.

It seems like MB is triggered due to Trump receiving some positive press for once.

Yeah, I'm told I'm just bitter.

I don't even know that the press is all that positive tbh. I'm sure FoxNews and some other pro-Trump outlets have some positive things say. But it seems the general consensus is awaiting to see what happens next. It would seem premature to call anything bad or good at this point b/c there is long way to go and it could certainly end with Kim doing what Kim's do and reneg and go revert back to an isolated Dictator.

It's here too, but admittedly muted compared to the rest of the web.

It's comical to me that they let CNN in to view their so called demolishing of a nuclear site. It's well known the site was toast, they're probably just destroying evidence...but CNN laps it up like they have the exclusive, when they're just NK lap dog to deliver their fake message to the world.

Granted, Stuart is a moron and that's generally accepted. But I started in last night when The_Donald was brigading Reddit. This morning was an extension of that when I'm seeing George Stephanopoulos lob softballs to Trump and then marvel with each other like something of substance actually happened.

If not giving this President the benefit of the doubt on just about anything makes me bitter, so be it. The man is a disgrace.

Whether he's a disgrace or not (that's not for me to debate), I would give him a better than 50/50 chance right now of being re-elected. And the media, along with idiots like DeNiro and Maher, are only increasing those odds with their stupid statements.

Well, Vegas is usually pretty good with odds, and they give Trump/Pence better than 50/50 odds. So obviously it's not just me telling myself that. Personally, I don't care. We're going to be stuck with one whacko in 2020...Trump or Biden. Glad I'm going to be out on deployment in the summer and fall of 2020 so I don't have to witness that campaign. Enjoy that show, America.

Seriously? I think there's a lot of similarities. I mean I can see if you're a fan of one of these two being swayed with why one guy is better than the other, but as someone who doesn't really care for either one, they both come across as old, grumpy men who will try to belitte the other and say what's on their mind which is usually something derogatory about the other.

... However, there is one group that’s known to have an accurate pulse on election outcomes—and that’s gamblers.

As of today, the Las Vegas odds makers are betting markets drastically favor Clinton to win. They give Democratic nominee a 72%-odds of becoming the next president, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with Trump at 28% odds to win.

Actually the 28% was one of the better predictions, most places had Trump far less. The only two places I know that did better was Nate Silver (who was around 30%) and the Iowa Prediction market site (which is also essentially a gambling site).

Can look at it two ways. One way is that Vegas got it wrong (as did every poll that year). The other is if Trump can win when he had an only 28% chance, imagine when it’s 50-50.

Too early to call 2020 right now, but Trumps chances ride on the economy. If it’s in good shape and nothing earth shattering happens globally that hurts him, then I don’t think there’s a question he’ll get re-elected, no matter how much people hate him.

You have 2 key assumptions working here.

The first is obviously the economy. You're assuming everything will be peachy 2 years from now.

Second, we don't have an opponent. If the Democrats bring a functioning adult to the convention, the probability of reelection could drop sharply.

If the gold standard for a "functioning adult" is The Trumpster...then I could find that at my local WalMart.

Donald Drumph is a bald-faced liar. A mysoginyst...and most likely a pedophile (considering his comments about his own daughter).

Tell me again, why you admire him so much? I mean as a "Christian" and a God-fearing "man"?

Jesus H. Suffering, Bald-headed Christ, on a see-saw. Trump has lowered the standards and expectations of this country's leaders so dramatically...I didn't even know it was possible. And I'm the most jaded individual on this board.

Wasn't Hillary the 'most qualified candidate is history'?

The DNC (and GOP for that matter) don't get it. They didn't in 2016, and won't in 2020. Both rejected the popular candidates on their side because they were outsiders. The GOP just didn't go as far as to rig the primary against Trump like the DNC did for Hillary against Bernie. But had the GOP had a clear favorite I'm sure they would have.

I have zero faith the DNC will produce the viable candidate under their current leadership of Perez and Ellison.
