I don't much care about the Jenny from the block routine either way.

I care that she represents another step towards legitimizing socialism. Even if it is a brand of socialism less nuanced and considered than a Roland Emmerich movie.

It seems like a shitty brand of socialism because it's not really socialist at all.

Read some socialist threads on Reddit. They think Bernie is milquetoast and probably think the same of Cortez. There's no seizing the means of production going on in the "far left" of the Democratic party. It's left wing populism. It's social democracy. And it's more FDR than Che Guavera.

Yeah, I'm so unhinged.

I really don't see the big deal here aside from Republicans and butthurt establishment Democrats who can't stand the thought of this woman in Congress. Even reading the article, I'm like "big ****ing deal".

It’s not a big deal, she played fast and loose with her backstory to create an image that she thought would resonate with voters, just like nearly every politician does.

Trump does it with his Everyman ‘Murcia thing.

In today’s political environment where story and persona matters more to most people then ideas it’s a successful strategy.

And as it pertains to Cortez, this is the stuff we should be talking about.

This is the stuff that matters. This is the stuff we should be talking about when it comes to politicians who do not take PAC or corporate money (All ten of them)

We already know the other 525 are bought and paid for to one extent or the other so they will say one thing and do another according to who ponied up the money to put them there. But in the case of Cortez who was tending bar a year ago, I think it's safe to say she believes in and is going to try an do the things she says.

That's a little more important to me than what neighborhood she grew up in vs. the one she lives in an now represents.

Politicians in this country have always played up their story and persona to try and get elected. The only difference now compared to 100 years ago is the media that is available to sell themselves to the public.

You are free to talk about them, I’m sure people would respond we talk about everything on here when we are bored often times as nuseaum. It’s not like there is extensive material on her stretching the narrative ... one or two articles ... Hammy posted a single post to shuck I replied with a silly meme. The extended back and forth isn’t about her but rather us talking with you about your reaction, in ever post from Hammy’s first to my last we said how all politicians do it

I guess the vets can get fucked on this platform, eh? Not that they are her voting block anyway.

I think if we elimitate our national defense we could pay for some of that list. But instead we will see our taxes climb astronomically.

Dear lord just let me retire before this **** happens.

Have we all not agreed the war was too costly and defense spending is too high? Can you show me a single post from anyone on this site that says the opposite?

And I can point you to posts by many Rs and Ls saying he tax cuts should have been coupled with cost cuts. Indeed you often disagree with the cuts we propose

That's the rub, isn't it? We all want the war to end, but we don't demand it from our political leaders despite it costing around $800 Billion a year. Both right and left are guilty there.

We all want the government to do something about the deficit but under this President it has increased a trillion dollars and counting.

All of Cortez's "Free Stuff" is well within the capacity of the government if it does something about all the money it wastes, but instead of doing something about that, the government continues to do whatever its told by corporate money. Which is why we have people who work full time on food stamps and HUD.

We could have very nice, low tax rates without all this debt if we looked after our own and ended things like the MIC and corporate welfare and an IRS that audits you and I for a $300 discrepancy, but never once takes a good look at Amazon who paid $0 on 5.6 billion in revenue.

Wrong Statue of Liberty on Stamp to Cost US Postal Service $3.5M
Attorneys had argued the face on the stamp was unmistakably different from the original — more "fresh-faced," "sultry" and even "sexier"

FILE - This Feb. 21, 2017 file photo shows the New York New York hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip. A judge has ordered the U.S. Postal Service to pay $3.5 million to the sculptor of a Statue of Liberty replica at the New-York-New York casino-resort in Las Vegas after an image of the replica was mistakenly used on a stamp (inset). Sculptor Robert Davidson sued the Postal Service for copyright infringement over the “forever” stamp design released in 2011 that featured the face of his Lady Liberty. (AP Photo/John Locher, File)

A stamp that mistakenly featured the image of a Statue of Liberty replica in Las Vegas instead of the original New York Statue will cost the U.S. Postal Service $3.5 million in a copyright infringement lawsuit.

Las Vegas sculptor Robert Davidson, who created the replica Lady Liberty in the facade at the New-York-New York casino-resort on the Las Vegas Strip, sued the Postal Service five years ago over its 2011 "forever" stamp design.

The stamp featured the face of his Lady Liberty, which his attorneys argued in court filings was unmistakably different from the original and was more "fresh-faced," "sultry" and even "sexier."

The Postal Service had been releasing the stamps for at least three months before discovering it was not an image of the New York statue.

Postal Service attorneys argued Davidson's design was too similar for him to claim copyright.

Federal Judge Eric Bruggink sided with Davidson last week and agreed his work was an original design with a more modern, feminine and contemporary face. He ordered the Postal Service to pay $3.5 million to the artist — a slice of the $70 million the service made in profit from the stamp.

Postal Service spokesman Dave Partenheimer said in an email that the agency was reviewing the decision and would comment "if and when appropriate."

Todd Bice, Davidson's attorney, said in an emailed statement that his client was pleased that the court recognized the significance of his work.

"As the court noted, Mr. Davidson's artistic creation of the Las Vegas Lady Liberty is highly unique and attractive, which is what prompted the US Postal Service to select a photo of his work for the second ever Forever Stamp, over hundreds of other images," he said.

Court documents show Davidson said he wanted his sculpture, like the rest of the casino-resort's facade, to have the feel of New York's iconic skyline without duplicating it.

A true American this Mr. Davidson. Doing his country proud.

John Quincy Adams: "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

Abraham Lincoln: "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves."

Harry Truman: "America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand."

Ronald Reagan: "Let us ask ourselves, 'What kind of people do we think we are?' And let us answer, 'Free people, worthy of freedom and determined not only to remain so but to help others gain their freedom as well.'"

Donald Trump: "“Let’s say I’m debating Pocahontas, right?” he said. “I promise you I’ll do this, you know those little kits they sell on television for $2? ‘Learn your heritage.’ … I’m going to get one of those little kits, and, in the middle of the debate, when she proclaims she’s of Indian heritage — because her mother said she has high cheekbones, that’s her only evidence, that her mother said she had high cheekbones — we will take that little kit, and say — but we have to do it gently, because we’re in the #MeToo generation, so we have to be very gentle — and we will very gently take that kit and we will slowly toss it, hoping it doesn’t hit her and injure her arm, even though it only weighs probably 2 ounces, and we will say, ‘I will give you a million dollars for your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian.'”
