Surely a compromise can be reached. Evidently, Trump wants immigrants who are European, good-looking, rich, educated and talented, like his wives I guess. And Dirty **** Durban and the rest of the Democrats want immigrants who are non-European, destitute, ignorant, uneducated and unskilled.

Trump thinks every immigrant should be a successful entrepreneur and the Dems think immigration is just a way to expand welfare enrollment, gerrymander the nation’s demographics and add to their voting block.

So we can compromise and alternate when taking immigrants, can’t we? We can go shithole-non-shithole-shithole-non-shithole-shithole-non-shithole and so on. Whatever you think of Trump, I think this sounds like a better option than the almost exclusively shit-hole country status quo that reigns presently.

I’d love to get your take on what we should do to prevent China from becoming the sole superpower, Sanka. That would be an interesting read I think. And what did you think about Michael Woff’s book? I’m assuming you read it since you seem to think it’s so important.

I just read an article about just how dire they are financially because of govt funded pensions. Even Jerry Browne is asking for California to redo a law that says once a worker is hired in under a certain pension scheme that scheme can never change even if the state doesn’t have enough money to pay.

Just since 2009 the states pension obligations have doubled! Can you imagine that in the real world? And remember these aren’t employee contributed plans...they are 100% on the taxpayer. Their pension system only has 68% of the money it needs to pay its liabilities.

How we let the government get away with these outdated employee free pension money grabs is beyond me...ithappens at every level in every state. Just remember that as you struggle to save for your own retirement....before you can take care of yourselves you have to take care of the millions on government payrolls and their future first

****ing crazy

California has long been considered the Capital of Liberalism. For sure something is causing the super high prices for goods, services and real estate in that state. I'm pretty sure that high state taxes and over-regulation have a role to play there. Regardless, it sure isn't due to their conservative politics. But, whatever. ::shrug::

Yes, MB, every state has their homeless. Everyone knows that. However, few have huge shanty towns like the one in that video that I'm aware of.

38 million people in California if 5% are homeless it 1.9 Million people. That's more than the population of 13 states.

States with the highest homelessness

Hawaii 465 per 100,000
New York 399
California 367

States with lowest homelessness
Mississippi 81
Indiana 94
Kansas 94

National average 195

Aside:
Washington DC 1,133

----------------

obviously the most relevant factor is cost of living....i'm sure we could argue all day long what political (and other) components influence cost of living

You've become the biggest team cheerleader on this board. This is what happens when you only read news for sources produced for your team. For you to blame homelessness on the other team is ridiculous.

New California declares "independence" from rest of state
Last Updated Jan 16, 2018 8:48 AM EST

SACRAMENTO — With the reading of their own version of a Declaration of Independence, founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood. CBS Sacramento reports they don't want to leave the United States, just California.

"Well, it's been ungovernable for a long time. High taxes, education, you name it, and we're rated around 48th or 50th from a business climate and standpoint in California," said founder Robert Paul Preston.

The state of New California would incorporate most of the state's rural counties, leaving the urban coastal counties to the current state of California.

"There's something wrong when you have a rural county such as this one, and you go down to Orange County which is mostly urban, and it has the same set of problems, and it happens because of how the state is being governed and taxed," Preston said.

But unlike other separation movements in the past, the state of New California wants to do things by the book, citing Article 4, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution and working with the state legislature to get it done, similar to the way West Virginia was formed.

"Yes. We have to demonstrate that we can govern ourselves before we are allowed to govern," said founder Tom Reed.

And despite obstacles, doubters, and obvious long odds, the group stands united in their statehood dream.

The group is organized with committees and a council of county representatives, but say it will take 10 to 18 months before they are ready to fully engage with the state legislature.

This is not the first effort to split up California. In 2014, Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper submitted signatures to put a measure that would split California in six separate states.
