As long as I get to see a robot football game before the AI revolution kills us all, I'll be happy.

If it's anything like the robot soccer game, I'll pass.

BMD ... you should enjoy this. An article discussing something you brought up ... the possibility of the government outlawing human drivers at some point in the future

Well I managed to avoid politics/news for most of my 11 day vacation... aaaaaand I'm back. thanks zarni lol. hope yall had a nice holiday

at the same time about that article. Nice to have the former lead product developer for one the largest automotive companies in history back your armchair thoughts about the future - but I REALLY don't want to see this happen. I like driving waaay too much. And I want to share that enjoyment with my son, as I did with my father. This one seems to have too many obvious "benefits" / carrots to chase for big companies for this not to happen though

I figured you get a kick out of a big wig saying what you were.

Yesterday NPR had an hour long special on with a robot ethicist that said we need to create laws that will ensure we don’t mistreat our own robots in the future
Interesting stuff

What is the justification of this?
I assume it's because these robots are projected to have feelings. If so, that's potentially a dangerous avenue in itself, but at the end of the day it will be a machine that can be/should be able to be decommissioned at will by the owner/operator. Could you imagine a foster home or shelter for abandoned robots?
I glossed over it, but lol at the title robot ethicist. My kids are in for an interesting future.
An aside, but slightly relevant to robots or automation...My son (5 years old) got to use his first remote control yesterday when we got Roku for the TV in his playroom. He was blown away and wouldn't put it down as he scrolled through the channels. We have remotes and have used them in the past, but for the past 2 years we basically use Alexa for everything. We have one in every room that control the lights, TVs, alarm system, thermostats, oven, dishwasher, Roomba, etc. He thought it was so cool to use the remote.

The theory is that people who mistreat robots will become desensitized to violence and mistreat other people more often

If they don't want to be a robot ethicist, maybe emoji translator?

yeah, I recently heard a little story on NPR talking about how kids are kind of mean to Alexa. And they also think she's alive. Some kids say they love her. But the researchers noticed this, the kids are impatient and mean to her and that people are generally very rude to their machines lol. The problem is the kids are rude to the machines with no repercussions, and sort of "trains" them to communicate in a rude way.

Unless a parent instills that Alexa or robots are just machines. My son doesn't love nor hate Alexa, he treats her like she is a remote (that sometimes doesn't understand him). Just like he loves our dog, but doesn't mistake her or talk to her like a human.

Now that we are talking about Alexa. I feel like it's the most life changing tech on a personal level since the I phone.

Sounds like you want to bang her

Hey, buddy.
Alexa isn't real. She's just a computer. She doesn't have feelings, doesn't understand your frustration, and cannot please you sexually. I'm sure there will be a skill for that soon.

The program also said how the people who name these technologies are misogynist ... they name the really smart genius stuff men’s names like Hal and the subservient ones women’s names like Alexa and Siri
I couldn’t understand why the lady presenter was going on about stuff like that.
When we all know she should have been making me a sandwich

My older brother just got divorced and visited over the holidays. He made a passing comment about AWALT and I gave him the verbal equivalent of a stone cold stunner in the middle of Waffle House.

LOL good. I'm not going to get on my soapbox about this, I can imagine you and I are probably on the same page with this one.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about

Zarniwoop wrote:I have no idea what you guys are talking about
Red Pill culture aka the Men's rights movement. It's a pushback to feminism in general and caters to guys who either can't get a girl, have a dead bedroom or lazy wife, or otherwise had their guts stomped out by a woman.
AWALT = All Women Are Like That. It carries the suggestion that all women are looking for a meal ticket and are biologically wired to use men to serve their own interests.
MGTOW = Men Going Their Own Way. The concept of being a man who is completely untethered by a woman. No marriage, no shacking up, only hookups. It assumes that men are hardwired by biology to be promiscuous and that marriage in the modern age only serves as a vehicle to pin men down and use up their resources until its time to cash out and go for a younger/richer man.
Very toxic culture that gave you terms like "cuck" and "chad" over the last couple of years. A lot of these guys can be found over at r/The_Donald on redditt.
