Without the magic of compounding interest it would take about 40 years for the average American household to accumulate $1 million dollars.

That assumes a 100% savings rate.

and if you put that money in a savings account now at our incredible 0.1% it would only take 39.6 years!

A family just noticed that a cereal box they bought from Walmart last week actually expired in 1997!

I frequently notice really dumb video games at my Wal-Mart, like "Madden 2003" for the PS2. Still $39.99. I feel like someone should be in charge of that sort of thing.

A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the federation in
To maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the Queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where... we found... this boy

A little something to restore faith in humanity on your Monday morning.

I know the standard at Waffle House is low but when I worked at Publix, I routinely did things like take customers' groceries out in the rain, helped blind customers shop the whole store, changed customers' tires or jumped cars, etc. Out of all those examples, I think I got maybe one free sub (standard commendation at Publix).

I work at a public college so it is not unnatural to have people protesting abortion, asking you to sign petitions, etc.

Walking back from the bathroom to my office I get stopped by a woman who sparks an innocent enough conversation and then she asked something to the effect of "do I have spiritual beliefs and what is your relationship with god?" She saw me pause and then said..."don't worry, I'm not a Jehovah's Witness."

I asked her why that would matter (if she was a JW)?

I told her that I did not find it appropriate to discuss my individual beliefs with her at my place of work and the conversation ended there.

I was just taken aback that she threw the "JW" thing at me...kind of took it as someone coming up to you and saying right off the bat "I'm not selling anything, but..."

I just found it odd that she was going to try and discuss religion with me yet she felt the need to indirectly bash another religion....

I'm 100% ignorant to nearly everything "religion", but this brief conversation struck me as odd.

College kids are a funny breed. They're just starting to crack their brains open for the first time and a chunk of info can send them off on a weird tangent.

Sorry, to clarify, this was a middle-aged, non-student.

that is odd/interesting to state that.

I'm like you in a way as far as being ignorant on religion. I've got the cliff notes figured out but have zero interest to open the book(s).

that being said, and since this is a randomness thread I'll add my religion funny. I play a lot of poker and one of the dealers there is pretty hardcore about his faith. I always have fun with the guy and tell other players that our dealer is a big fan of Jesus so we should get some good hands. I was joshing with him about religion and I compared the different religions and how they are like different streaming services.. depending on what you're looking for, there's something out there for everyone. oh we laughed and laughed.. just some Little House On The Prairie fun.

I've seen that before that people who go door to door or approach me on the street randomly say, "I'm not Jahova's Witness". I don't think that's odd at all really.

I don’t see that as odd, nor as her bashing another religion

JW take their evangelizing duties very seriously..this is well noted and I’m guessing many wear that label with a badge of honor.

While it may have come out odd maybe she was simply assuring you she has no aim at conversion and was simply interested in learning about you
