Thanks everyone.

The job I'm at now isn't retail but it is a notary business. I doubt they could pay me 12 an hour.

Does anyone on this board watch NASCAR? I couldnt find a thread so figured this would be the place to just get a general feel.

I've been to about 10 different tracks growing up. The Whelen series is supposed to come to a local track soon so I'm trying to get tickets for me and my dad to go.

I gave up on Nascar about 10-12 years ago.

I remember watching NASCAR a bit in the late 70's early 80's with my dad. My favorite car was the Mountain Dew car, I think it was #88 and of course Richard Petty.

The playoff system makes these races pretty compelling. Late cautions can **** a guy completely like it did Keselwoski yesterday.

I guess, but I don't consider drivers athletes.

What USC said. Although, the drivers today probably work out just as much as most any other athlete does.

Jimmie Johnson ran the boston marathon.

As for calling them athletes, eh. They have elite talents, some which require athletic skill but they really arent athletes. They are drivers. NASCAR is a competition, not nessecarily a sport. 40 guys compete to win. Big money in the sport, but advertisers have left after big contributions as well.

It's something I grew up on. My dad took me to races so I've always appreciated it.

That doesn't make Johnson an athlete.

I think they certainly have characteristics of athleticism (to varying degrees) but certainly they aren’t as athletic as folks from the other major sports.

Football is a sport, golf is a game.

Racing itself is literally the oldest sport there is but only so far as human athleticism being the determining factor for victory.

Horse racing is ultimately a sport for horses using the same logic.

Chess is won or lost mental acuity making and as such is universally accepted as a game.

So if we use that criteria for auto racing, it's only a sport for pit crews. Everyone else from the driver to the crew chief to the guys building the racecars are playing a game where mental acuity and skill are the key to winning and losing.

That's the best take on the topic I have been able to come up with.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that an athlete couldn't be a good racer/ driver, but athleticism isn't required to be great.

It's something I grew up on. My dad took me to races so I've always appreciated it.

I used to watch most all the Cup races and I went to nearly every 400-miler in Daytona from about 1988 to 2003. Also attended a couple of Daytona 500's. I've been to numerous races in Martinsville and Bristol as well. I just lost interest in the "sport" of auto racing over the past decade. The biggest issue for me was the length of the races. 3-4 hours for every single race is just way too long. Regardless, I still peek at what's going on in Nascar from time to time as well as other major league auto racing...Indy Car and Formula One for example. Just not an avid fan anymore.

Understandable Buc2. I put it on in the background and do other stuff. Or when football is on I browse between.

Anyone ever get light headed and pass out when they give blood? I had it happen again this morning when I needed to get blood drawn. Just wondering if it means anything. I got cold and then started sweating perfusely. Only gave 5 small tubes of blood too.

Check to see if you are anemic. 5 tubes + a pint is a lot of blood loss. Are you used to it? I would stay VERY hydrated (water mostly), and make sure your balance is in check

I don't think what happened to you is normal. That they didn't seem to be at all concerned seems puzzling to me. Also, you indicated that has happened before. Did you not tell them that? If not, I'd recommend you do the next time you have to have bloodwork done.

I told them. The option was to lay down which I deferred as I don't like that. They said it happens to some people, to me it was worrisome. To them, they probably see a case like this once every few days. They had trouble finding my veins too. I'm not sure. I'm a 6 foot, 225 lb 29 year old man. I've just had troubles with giving blood. Makes me feel extremely weak. They said my veins were hidden too. Idk.

Is any of it mental? Do you get freaked out by the idea of it?

For a guy your size, 5 viles shouldn’t be too difficult physiologically

Not at all. I dont get freaked out. Its like an aging fighter knowing hes going to get hit and think you can withstand it, but everytime I succumb to the passing out feeling. They once drew blood from my thumb, one vial and immediately upon the needle being in my vein I passed out. I woke up and was startled with nurses frantically standing over me asking if I was okay. Sometimes I see black dots and I think its related but the dots are apparently just feelers from your eyes.

Anyone want to do today's short answer questions on my BUsiness Foundations exam? (it is over our accounting and finance modules as well as a collection of business/economics ethics writings)

1.) What are the three major categories of securities from least risky to most risky?
2.) Please give a one or two sentence interpretation of the following financial ratios: a.) Current Ratio = 1.9, b.) Net profit Margin = 0.22, c.) Debt Ratio = 0.6
3.) Describe what major elements you would find on a balance sheet.
4.) In the Garrett Hardin essay we read he talks about the "tragedy of the commons". What is the concept? Give an example. Name two strategies Hardin pointed out to solving the problem.
5) Describe how F.A. Hayek thought goods and services should be valued. Why does he think this value mechanism is best? Describe's Marx's criticism of Hayek's mechanism. How does Marx think goods and services should be valued?
