Decent Furniture

Postby Mountaineer Buc » Tue Oct 16, 2018 3:36 pm

In all seriousness, and with all brevity, I cannot stress enough that the furniture industry is an absolute **** show.

These guys are charging $300 for a dresser that has the same veneer as a build it yourself from walmart. The only upside being it's only partially made with particle board. We know the Amish still make it right, but for the life of me I'm pretty sure they are the only ones.

So last year, I buy myself a new couch. Turns out the thing is a piece of **** and some kid did a flying elbow on the thing and broke the cheap ass wood holding the thing together. It is now braced with a stack of books and is still a colossal piece of ****.

I don't even know where to go to get a good couch. Ashley and Babcock are selling the same mass produced garbage. I don't figure Rooms to Go is a whole lot better.

So am I forced to buy new couches every couple of years, or is somebody making quality products that are worth the investment?

Looking to get a sectional.

Ethan Allen has nice furniture, but it's a little overpriced.

We have some really good local stores that we use.

I've also had good experience with Wayfair, but read a ton of the user reviews from each level.

Ethan Allen? You're a fancy mofo...

Do they have American Signature where you live? My wife got our couch and dining room set there.

Don't you WV people just burn couches anyway? I had a friend who used to say that all the time, and think it would also apply to sectionals.

We do not. I've never heard of it.

We buy most of our furniture at one of 2 local places that we refer to as the super expensive place (really nice stuff) or the good place. We've bought things from Ashley's, Rooms to go, Value City and it's all been crap.

I got a TV cabinet from Wayfair for Father's Day. It was damned nice! And it's well put together. I know, since I put it together.

They have options to ship built on some furniture, too.

I got a desk and file cabinet from there, but that's it. I say a little overpriced, because it's a piece of furniture that should last 100+ years.

I can expect that from tables, hutches, curios and desks, but I cannot fathom a couch being a forever purchase if it's getting sat on every day.

except for granny's plastic coating.

I'd agree. Would never spend that much on a couch.

Our leather sectional from Havertys we got 5 or so years ago is still in perfect condition. Never had an issue with it.
