Name Your Car Day

Postby Kress » Tue Oct 02, 2018 9:17 am

According to the fine folks on the radio this morning, it is National Name Your Car Day! While I am sure that you already knew that, and are in the middle of your celebrations for this most sacred of holidays, I thought you might still want to take a second to share.

What is the name, and why?

Mine: Vader. He's all black, with full blackout including wheels, trim, grille, everything. There isn't a speck of chrome/color on it outside of the emblem on the back and the badges on the grille, in the center of each wheel, and by the side vents.

My wife's: Kiki. Long story that relates to a TV show, but it fits perfectly.

Other: I have my former car still, and we use it to haul our kayaks on the roof, dirty stuff from Home Depot, transporting larger or messy things, etc. I don't actually have a name for it. We just call it "the Mazda." I'm open to suggestions - it's a silver 4-door hatch back (I guess they call it a 5 door?). Something along the lines of a car that does all of the grunt work. Then again it's older and silver, so an age motif could work as well.

I call mine *****...as in ***** cat...

Got rid of my truck (I ****ing loved my truck) because my company discontinued auto allowances and went to company cars...gave us all Hyundai Santa Fes...

First time I ever hit the key to lock it up and the horn went off I exclaimed "what a damn ***** car"...

Name has kinda stuck..

I've never named a car before. Not sure why. Just not something I've ever had the urge to do. When I got my new Maxima, my daughter asked what I was going to name it. I looked at her and said, Nissan Maxima. She said, lame.

So... let's have a naming contest. Help me come up with a name for my 2018 Maxima Midnight Edition.

Yeah... I'm way past mid-life.

Otherwise, I'd have opted for something like this...

That's a 2015 Jaguar F Type so it would cost about the same as what I paid for the Maxima. Not sure what a 2018/19 would cost.

I wrecked my car in 2008 and had to replace it on the fly. Being 19 and having only about $5000 to my name with job, college etc I had to choose fast. The best I found was a Malibu and holy God I hated it. It ran fine for like a month and then everything that could go wrong did.

So it got named every foul word I could think of in the years I had it. I could never save to replace it because as soon as I got close some dumb **** would happen like the power steering failing or blowing a head gasket. Good luck selling it to anyone but a dealer and good luck getting out that debt quickly. And it's not like I had "do it yourself" time to fix it. I often had school the same day work the next and sometimes I would have both. You get it to the shop and 7 hours and $400-800 later you drive it and worry about the credit card later. The closest thing it ever had to a name was "the car that shall not be named"

I mercifully sold it as was and got a beat up Acura but that ****er has been the best thing to ever happen to me. It was 3 years before anything not
Maintenance related happend (i.e I had to replace the brakes and rotors 2 years in) and I have mockingly called it Charisse when the occasion of what it's name came up.

But I will say it earned a name. 6 great years and counting. Not bad for a '99

Mid-Life? What, is the guy going to live to be 185 or something?

I'm thinking Storm.

Not to be confused with Stormy. That's a whole different conversation. This storm:
