Tell the folks around Okeechobee they’re not Southern... Or for that matter, St Cloud, Narcoosee, Waichula, Mulberry, Haines City, etc etc etc...

Ha! I live in Saint Cloud. It’s still pretty ‘southern’, but not nearly as bad as it used to be.

But back when I first moved here...in the mid nineties? Good lord, this place was redneckville. I even lived in Kissimmee for awhile just to get away from it, lol.

But then Charlie, Francis, and Gene, decided I wasn’t welcome in Kissimmee anymore, so moved back to Saint Cloud.

Was in St Cloud from 99-04. Recently made a trip back. It sure has changed from back when...

County/redneck does not make something southern. Almost every state has their fair share of that. There may be southerners in Florida(1/3 of the popular is non-native), but outside of pure geography Florida most certainly is not part of the south.

I love the hell out of grits, FWIW. Best part of being back in the south was getting some decent grits. You can barely find them on a menu in my parts, much less done well.

You can't find boiled peanuts at all, however, as that's ****ing disgusting and everyone else in the world knows it. Reminds me of Sam Kinson's old bit about when McDonalds would get creative with their menu. "Let's put **** on a bun...try it out in a few Southern markets, see what happens..."

Being back in Florida honestly reminded me much more of being back in NY than anywhere in the south I've been. Admittedly I was mostly in and around metros, but the only thing that felt "Southern" about the experience was the bugs.

Of course it's BS.

No one has proclaimed that's what determines how southern or not you are. It's just for fun.

Indeed, I always thought I’d like living in Western PA. East not so much. I dated a girl from Greenville for a few years in College. I really liked that area along with Latrobe and Pittsburgh.

Same goes for Meatchicken, I’d think I’d be happy there outside of Detroit

Good luck teaching that to someone from NJ. They're only allowed to turn right there.

I see your point .. We use this in almost every project we start up .. it really helps with perspective ... nothing wrong, it's different.

What you call pronunciation, I see as choices .. but keep swinging sunshine .. you'll hit one one day

What's that long sandwich with lots of cold cuts and toppings?
Sub
Hoagie
Grinder
Italian
Hero
Po Boy

What's the tiny lobster that crawls around in creek bottoms?
Crawfish
Crayfish
Crawdad
Mud bug

Also a great birthday or anniversary gift.

What do you call gym shoes?
Sneakers
Tennis shoes
Gym shoes
Running shoes

Well, the first six questions deal with pronunciation. The rest of it, however, deals with regional dialect. Which happens to be a perfectly viable method of determining a person's region of origin.

To be honest, I doubt Stewie made it past the third question, much less the sixth.

71% Dixie. Your neck must be a just little rosy!

All of my non Southern or common throughout answers pegged me as Michigan; where a lot of my family is. Test was pretty good.
