Snow in Florida? Meteorologists say it's possible!

Postby Phantom Phenom » Fri Dec 29, 2017 8:21 pm

Flurries in Florida? Even Tampa Bay?

It's possible, according to ABC Action News meteorologists Shay Ryan and Greg Dee. Although it is a long shot, there is a slight chance that Tampa Bay could see some snow next Thursday, January 4... if all of the stars align.

There were flurries down here in Naples back in 1977. Never stuck to the ground but we saw them....

We had snow a week before Thanksgiving in the panhandle.

It comes about once every three years up here.

My one and only game in Tampa was that Lions game this year. In the morning when we went to the WTB tailgate, I could not believe how cold it was in Tampa. I’m from a place in Oz that is pretty much the equivalent in lateral/long and it never gets that cold. Mind you, I think it was an outlier as many people I spoke to said that weather was uncommon.

None greater than those "muh property values" motherfuckers.

Cape Coral has some of the most ridiculous ordinances I've ever heard of.

Florida has seen its share of weather warnings over the last year - hurricanes, tornados, floods, and more. But now, parts of the Sunshine State are under a rare winter storm warning.

The National Weather Service's Tallahassee bureau issued the advisory - their first in almost four years - this afternoon, warning that snow and ice, including the ever-popular "wintry mix," are possible across southern Georgia and even parts of northern Florida overnight.

"Cold temperatures will remain as a low develops off the Atlantic Coast of Florida," the NWS forecast said. "With below-freezing temperatures at the surface and a layer above freezing aloft, a wintry mix of precipitation is expected. Freezing rain, sleet, and/or snow will develop after midnight tonight through Wednesday morning."

Winter Storm Warnings have been issued across the Florida Big Bend and south central Georgia, with Winter Weather Advisories farther west. Snow up to 1-1.5" and up to 1/4" of ice is possible. See graphics for details: #flwx #gawx #alwx pic.twitter.com/BwamkTTaE8
-- NWS Tallahassee (@NWSTallahassee) January 2, 2018
Forecasters expect snow accumulations from 1 to 1½ inches in south-central Georgia. Florida's Big Bend region, from Tallahassee to Perry to Lake City, could get anywhere from a half-inch to an inch of the white stuff by midday Wednesday.

I'm outside right now, and it's really not that cold. I'm guessing 50's.

Got down to 8 here last night. Tonight will be a balmy 12. But, hey! At least it's dry. No snow or any other nasty stuff.

St. Petersburg. Same/same. Except we are a few degrees warmer because of the water.

Tallahassee checking in. We got real freaking snow this morning. It was coming down pretty good, too. Stuck on everything but the ground.

Got half a day off from work.
