The California fire.

Postby Kress » Thu Dec 07, 2017 11:29 pm

It seems like this happens every year, but this time it is bad. The photos are terrible. We in Florida always bitch about hurricanes, and those in the north talk about ice and blizzards, but damn. This is some serious stuff.

I wish all the best for the people affected.

Soooo, I just woke up to a ‘voluntary evacuation’, with a mandatory evacuation about 3 miles away. 0% contained, with wind gusts of 20-30 mph expected today.

And have I mentioned we’ve had about 1” of rain this year?

Could get interesting.

When looking at the reports last night, they were hoping that it could get contained around CHRISTMAS ....

That's 16 days for you and me ...

Good grief, I hope you’re joking.

Although all the ash falling could make it feel a bit more like a white Christmas...

Good luck to those affected. If it's any consolation you get to watch half our state sink probably some time this century.

All good. I think the worst has definitely passed. Thank you for asking.

Now it’s apparently the North-East’s turn on the ‘Natural Disaster’ train we’ve been seeing the last few years.

Did I see correctly they are expecting hurricane force blizzards??!

Yup. And snowfall expectations have tripled in the last 24 hours. Good times.

Even though our water pipes upstairs froze and burst last night...thank goodness it was after we returned from our vacation in SoCal.

We have booze, water and food. Being the pain New England!!! I've been through worse with less.

Wondering if the OP should update thread to ‘Natural Disasters’.. if we don’t already have one.

Mother Nature seems a little pissed at us at the moment.

Cali Fire isn't a "natural disaster". It's environmentalism run amok.

Wait, what?

You see, the people who want to preserve the environment are actually damaging it and the guys who exploit it for money are just innocent victims in all this.

California won't allow enough prescribed burns. This was at the urging of environmentalist groups. They use a variety of laws as "reasons" for it, like the Clean Air Act. Forestry services have been complaining about it for decades.

Hmmm. And here I thought it was the lack of rain, Santa Ana winds, and homeless camps...
