Giving a label like this to someone can drive people to do weird things in the name of fame...or more accurately: infamy.

What I’m trying to say is: it’s dangerous to throw the words “serial killer” out there without actually establishing that it is indeed, one person picking random people off for no reason. You’ll see that’s why police are hesitant to use the word and only the media have used it. The more the word is used to describe the murders, the more it can potentially make the person continue, or worse...create copycats.

I saw the story on the news Sunday night (I think). It's not Jason's word, it's some media. The killings do appear related, yet it's based on proximity.

MSN
Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan believes the killings are connected based on their close proximity and time frame. However, Dugan is refraining from labelling the unknown suspect as a serial killer.

So far, so good. It's kinda like X-Files but about serial killers instead of aliens. They even made the protagonists set up shop in the FBI basement.

Because this doesn't happen in NY...or anywhere else?

It's a fucked up situation. I work near there and have friends that live there.

Unfortunately...one person, with a gun, can do some random ****. And it's damn hard to catch them. He'll be found. And when he's convicted, he'll get to meet Old Sparky (What we used to call the old Electric Chair in FL)...or whatever they call the new execution method nowadays.

This **** reminds me of the DC Sniper from several years back...

That was more a carryover from another thread than an actual suggestion / solution.

I find it hard to believe someone doesn't recognize enough about this guy in the videos shown to get that info to the police. Somebody knows who this is. Not sure why he'd be protected. A relative? Gang related in a hazing sense? Don't know but the guy very likely lives within a pretty small area.
