Find a bottle just outside your normal price range. Something where the $10 knocks it down to the top of what you usually go for.

If you're looking for a specific, I'll say Angel's Envy. I may have recommended it before, but damn... That **** is good.

Fair. Booker's?

Problem with Booker's is a couple years ago they bluffed that they were cutting production which drove prices far too high. When the consumer said bullshit, they backed off and kept production normal. But a few stores have kept the prices jacked.

Booker's is okay. I've been heavy on the rye whiskeys this year, so that's probably given me a bit of a bias towards other good booze.

Got a good rye you recommend? That's one area I don't have a lot of experience with.

Bulleit makes a rye. So does Woodford.

Haven't tried either of them myself.

As MB said, Bulleit's "95" Rye is what I'd recommend as a starting point. Won't hurt your wallet and imo is quite nice. If you like that, you'll probably want to get a bottle of Templeton "The Good Stuff" and Sazerac 6 year (this one is a bit sweeter than others). Redemption has a barrel aged that I didn't care much for, I wouldn't recommend. For a nightcap, Whistlepig. Yes - Whistlepig.

I've got a bottle of Sazerac right now. I've got a sous vide experiment going on with it.

Sorry, forgot to get back to this.

I like to do booze infusions. Take some fresh fruit, let it sit in a jar for a couple/few months/years. And see what happens. According to the internet, the sous vide is supposed to facilitate a rapid infusion. What used to take months would now only take hours. I took a couple farm fresh peaches, cut them up, grilled them, and then dropped them in a bell jar, poured most of the Sazerac in. 3 hours at 185*.

There was a hint of peach on the finish. Maybe another hour would have been better. I wasn't looking for a full blown peach flavor, just a little something that would be a little more pronounced. The peaches, however, were sublime. Plenty of bite to them. I even took some of them and chopped them up with some fresh peaches, jalapeno, and red onion to make kind of a salsa thing to top off some pulled pork.

Doing the go-to meal of Spaghetti tonight so I suppose it'll be some red wine with that. I could stick with it after dinner or transition to some Amber Bock I have in the fridge.

Big bottle of Beam at the home bar is available as well.
