I finally got to see him back in July with my dad. I had a couple of conflicts and made the joke I have to see him before he calls it quits or dies... didn't think it'd be so soon though. 66 damn.

Glad I got to experience it. He was ****ing awesome and it was a great time.

John Dunsworth, the actor best known for his portrayal of Jim Lahey on the cult hit series “Trailer Park Boys,” has died at the age of 71.

Dunsworth’s daughther Sarah, who is also a star of “Trailer Park Boys,” shared the news on Twitter. She wrote, “With heavy and broken hearts the family of John F. Dunsworth would like to let people know that our amazing husband, father and grandfather John Dunsworth has passed away. John left this world peacefully after a short and unexpected illness.”

The “Trailer Park Boys” team paid tribute to Dunsworth as well, posting on their social media channels: “We’re in shock and heartbroken by the sudden loss of our dear friend John Dunsworth. We respect the family’s wishes for privacy at this time.”

Dunsworth was a Nova Scotia, Canada, native who was active in his local theater and acting community for decades. He first became part of what would become “Trailer Park Boys” when he played a version of the Jim Lahey character for the first time in the short film “One Last Shot.” He would go on to play the character–infamous for his drunken, bisexual escapades as a trailer park supervisor and police officer at different times in the series–throughout its initial seven season run in Canada and again when the show was revived by Netflix. The series is set to debut its twelfth season on Netflix in the coming year. He would also play the character in all of the “Trailer Park Boys” films and one-off specials.

How the heck did we miss Monty Hall? I dont even know what happened in 9/29 to distract us :)

He was king when the games shows roamed the TV. I love occasionally watching the Game Show Channel to remind me of the good ole days

You got a good one Grim, and he a good life. He was 96.

In one of my courses, I introduce the students to the Monty Hall game....the 3 door game...where there is one good prize and 2 bad ones. The contestant picks a prize and the host would then eliminate one of the two doors the contestant didn't pick (the host NEVER eliminates the good prize). Then I ask the students the same thing Monty Hall asked the contestants -- do you want to keep your door or switch?

Less than 50% of the class realizes that you should ALWAYS switch.

It's a fun little experiment.

Never knew who Monty Hall was, but playing D&D in the late 70's and early 80's we were always warned about the dangers of the "Monty Hall Malady" in our campaigns. Thank you Gary Gygax

Soap Benson or Benson Benson?

I take solace in the fact that I'm in the latter.

The older woman in the front row, I know her as Mona. She looks the same age in that pic that she was in Who's The Boss. And that's amazing, because it's like a 25 year spread. No idea what her real name is, so I looked her up. And she still looks damn close to the same.

'SOAP' was way ahead of its time.

Maybe I should pay a visit to Katherine Helmond in the not so distant future...

She was great on SOAP as the well-meaning ditz Katherine, and great on Who's The Boss as the scheming, man-crazy Mona. She's also had memorable small roles in Brazil and Fear And Loathing, and has probably guested on 100 different TV shows over the years. I also remember her on the last season or two of Coach, as the owner of the Orlando Breakers.

And I just realized she's NOT the one who died here, so I'll be sure to copy and re-post this in the near future. I honestly thought she died like ten years ago.

Definitely on the Benson squad. I loved that show as a kid, Robert and René Auberjonois roasting each other was solid gold.

I've seen reruns of Benson, and watched the whole run of SOAP. I guess I'd technically be part of the "Sports Night" crowd, though. Didn't see Lion King until years later but remember that show as a kid.
