LOS ANGELES (AP) – Cuba Gooding Sr., who sang the 1972 hit “Everybody Plays the Fool,” has died.

Authorities say the 72-year-old singer and father of Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. was found dead in a car Thursday in the Woodland Hills section of Los Angeles.

Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter says the cause of death is under investigation, but drug paraphernalia and alcohol were found in the car parked on a busy street.

The elder Gooding rose to fame for “Everybody Plays the Fool,” which he sang with the rhythm-and-blues group The Main Ingredient. The song helped the family move from the Bronx to Southern California.

Cuba Gooding Sr.’s own father fled Barbados and went to Cuba – hence the name of his son – before becoming a taxi driver in Manhattan.

I normally don't do stuff like this, because I'm an appellate guy, but I had to cover the deposition of this guy once due to me being the only person available.

The guy? A man who accidentally backed over and killed his own father with his truck. I had to sit there and ask him detailed questions about how it happened. That was suck. What that guy must have been feeling to begin with, and now this lawyer waltzes in there and makes him talk all about it in front of a court reporter. I felt a wee bit like a pile of doo.

Very sad. He seemed like a good guy, had a young daughter and 45 is way too soon.

This one stings. If there's a Mt. Rushmore of grunge singers, Cornell is on it. I never much got into Audioslave, and I didn't like his solo stuff, but when he was with Soundgarden, or Temple Of The Dog, he was one of those "Soundtrack Of His Era" types. "Black Hole Sun," "Outshined," "Fell On Black Days," "Pretty Noose," man...

I still think this is one of the best vocal rock performances ever.

Very sad. Saw Soundgarden live back in the 90's, still one of the best shows I've ever been to.

There were three types of Seattle grunge fans in the 90's.

Nirvana fans

Pearl Jam fans

and the weirdos.

I was a weirdo. RIP Chris. You outshined everyone.

And then there's this...

According to a local DJ, who was evidently a huge fan, the last song he did was a cover of Zep's version of an old Gospel song, In My Time Of Dying.

This is true. Plus his twitter post earlier in the day that said #NoMoreBullshit. Seems he may have known what he was going to do.

Just shows you never know what's going on with someone. He's been touring, appearing/performing on tv shows, writing a new SG album and has seemed pleasant and happy in interviews lately.
