Help me out. Other than the mentions of Thanos, how did it build up to Infinity Wars?

To me, for the most part, it felt like more of a standalone movie than just a part of the MCU.

Spoiler:
That's pretty big. Thanos has been seen or mentioned since the post-credits of Age of Ultron 2 years ago. With Nebula proclaiming she's on a quest to kill him they are starting to put more pieces in place for Infinity Wars, with him being the antagonist.

There was basically zero buildup for Infinity War in GotG2 and I think that's a good thing. The GotG franchise doesn't need to be one giant billboard for that film. The first one set up enough things, I'm glad Gunn got to dig deeper into the character's psyches for this one.

I feel the same way. That's why I was confused at what Bootz originally said.

Yeah, if I didn't know already that the next Avengers movie was the Infinity War, GotG2 wouldn't have changed that thought at all. The only mentions of Thanos were in the personal vendetta Nebula has against him stemming from his abuse. There was no mention of what they were going to do next. Hell, I don't even recall a subtle name drop to show they're even aware who the Avengers even are at this point.

Bootz dropped a famously huge turd there.

Tom Hardy is Venom.

Hardy will play Eddie Brock/Venom in the upcoming Venom movie.

I LOVED Venom as a kid...but they're keeping this in the SONY universe. I HATE the idea of doing a Venom movie without first having anything to do with Spider-man. There is no Venom without Spider-man first.

Venom makes no sense apart from Spider-Man. They're going to waste a good actor and a great character on crap execution.

Zack Snyder has stepped away from Justice League. His daughter committed suicide in March, and the weight finally became too much for him.

Filming is complete, but the responsibilities from here out will be handled by Joss Whedon.

Suicide sucks.

I think I kind of like it. It's a new wrinkle. Brings Spider-Man up to date.

I'm trying to stay away from the trailers but you all are going to make me watch just to see what the problem is.

I didn't have an issue with the suit. I am curious to see how Marvel uses Spider-Man in a suit like that though. I feel like the suit won't make it through the movie, but we'll see.

The high-tech suit will probably last for most of the movie until the final battle with Vulture/Shocker. Then they'll disable the suit, and you'll have Spiderman fighting with webs and fist like normally. Last part of the movie, Stark will say something like "Lets get your suit fixed up", and Peter will give a cheesy line about how he wants to fight with his own abilities instead of being like Stark or something.

That said, I don't hate the suit. I'm still definitely going to see it right when it comes out. Adds an interesting new touch to the movie imo.

I wanna see a list of these web combos...

But seriously, I think the suit brings something unique to the movie.

I agree with Nano that the suit will only be temporary. It's too similar to Iron Man imo.

Early reviews of Wonder Woman say it's not only the best DCEU film by far but it's also one of the greatest Superhero films of all time.

They looked like they killed it from the previews...and I've never been a WW fan.

Oh yea. DC hit a homerun here with Wonder Woman. Big home run. If this were in the MCU it would be in my top 5 quite honestly.

Why does it have to be in the MCUto be top 5? That doesn't make any sense.

Just a bit of perspective. Thats all. Try not to think too hard. It was a great movie. Better than a lot of MCU films. Im saying if it were an MCU film it would be in my MCU top 5.

So it's a top 5 super hero movie for you, got it.

I'm in a movie drought right now. I'm still waiting for Guardians to become available to watch.

Wonder Woman may single handily save the DCEU. This is DCEU's first successful character building film. WW wasn't concerned about the larger D.C. universe and instead was focused on telling an engaging origin story for a fascinating character. Well done!

Edit: If I ranked origin stories from both DCEU and MCU I would put WW at the top.

She's firmly established in the DCEU now. Solid movie.

Reminded me of Captain America The first Avenger.
