Bourbon Thread

Postby 2.0 » Mon Jan 26, 2015 9:14 pm

I know the other board had it, but I can't find it here.

My sister got me a bottle of Eagle Rare recently, probably going to crack that tonight and enjoy the cancelled class tomorrow. Anyone ever have it? Good, bad, or something else?

Eagle Rare is a personal favorite of mine. It is very smooth and for the price has a ton of flavor. You'll enjoy it. I recommend drinking it on the rocks with a water chaser.

I'm personally drinking a 12 year old Elijah Craig neat. ****ing delicioso.

What about doing a shot of it and chasing with beer? I'm still in college so I think that's what I'm supposed to do

That bourbon is wasted on shots. It is more than good enough to sip. I'd try a two finger pour with 4 ice cubes first. Nurse it and see if you like the taste. If not then ****ing slam that bitch via shots. Beer is a valid chaser in both situations.

Eagle is a good one, smooth enough that no chaser is required. Also, I hate you all for not using the official booze thread.

Bourbon deserves it's own thread. It is borderline criminal to suggest that bourbon be included in the same conversation as swill like vodka, gin, and rum.

While I agree that Bourbon (notice the capitalization) is generally enjoyed by those that have been gifted with higher intelligence and larger penises; let us not forget that Tequila and Scotch are as equally deserving of enjoyment. Hence, the booze thread.

Yessir, but Bourbon is in a class all by itself.

Picking up a bottle of Woodford Reserve this weekend....because I ran out of Bourbon.

Devil's Cut is what I had just polished off when I ran out. It's a fine Bourbon but it's not elite. Maker's 46 is supposed to be a very excellent Bourbon and is on my try list.

Let me suggest that you skip the Devil's cut and go straight to the 46. Then bring yourself back down from that high with a traditional bottle of Makers, then have the Devils's cut.

I say this because I expect the differences between the two to be striking enough that DC might be paint thinnner compared to the 46 which has a very solid reputation.

Maker's 46 is indeed a fine bourbon. I polished off a bottle of that stuff last week. Think regular Maker's but smoother and with a much more refined range of flavors.

Damn thread made me grab my bottle of Booker's. This batch is 130.8°, which is higher than the range listed on both their site (Proof: 121 to 127) and their Wiki page (between 121 and 130.6). Maybe this means I should go find more of this batch.

Rocks glass, 1 cube, fill glass to the top of the cube.

I got a little sloppy tonight. I'm at my hunting camp and we have copious amounts and varieties of whiskeys. As such I felt obligated to finish a few bottles that were a bit low. I'm drinking a Maker's 46/Buffalo Trace/seltzer combo on the rocks right now. I've already had 7 beers and a port wine martini at this point. I think this clip actually, truthfully describes me right now:

How long should a .750 last a 'normal' person? I am beginning to think I have a problem.

Jesus, then I really have a problem. About 1/3 of a .750 reaming that I purchased last night.

Oh well, anything worth doing is worth doing right.

3 words:

Pappy Van Winkle.

Impossible to get, you say?

Outie...I think you live in the FLA, yes?

Then I suppose you know of ABC's monthly raffle?

I won 3 months ago. My prize was an opportunity to purchase a .750 of Pappy. $150.

It was "nice".

I haven't had a bourbon in like 2 months.

This is unacceptable.

I have three bottles of Pappy. My dad owned the Gallagher's Steakhouse in Channelside, when it closed we got an insane amount of top, top shelf liquor and wine. Also, Spirits 365 on the St Pete side of Gandy (shares space with Vegas Showgirls strip club, just east of the dog track) has a few bottles for sale on occasion.

How are they able to acquire and sell Pappy!?

ABC is the only way (without going on a 2-3 year waiting list) TO PURCHASE A BARREL. he

What in the ham-sammmich is going on around here!?

No idea. I just know that I saw a bottle on their "high roller" shelf back in October.

As for the bourbon itself. It's probably the best bourbon I've ever had or will ever have. That said, if I were in a situation that dictated I had to pay for it? I'd probably go with something cheaper. It's stupid expensive.

We're facing the possibility of a bourbon shortage, so let's waste a ****ing barrel of it: https://www.yahoo.com/makers/bourbon-so ... 65860.html

This is why people hate America.

Funny that you bumped this... I was about to do the same.

I picked up a bottle of Angel's Envy earlier this week. A co-worker of mine was raving about it.

I will let you know how it goes after tonight. Alternatively, if you see me posting at about 2-3 a.m., you will already know how it went.

Oaky, but also very sweet. I could probably best describe it as a maple candy type of flavor. I liked it.
