Kylo Ren could very well become a protagonist.

He killed Han Solo and get beat up by a girl. Who's going to get on his bandwagon?

Kylo Ren is a Skywalker.

In other Star Wars news, International Business Times reports that Mike Zeroh of Mike Zeroh’s YouTube channel believes the upcoming movie will answer the question of “how Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o) was able to get Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) lightsaber.”

The same source reports that Nyong’o’s character will reveal how she found it and the backstory behind the lightsaber.

Aside from these character developments, it was reported that two duels may happen in Episode 8. The owner of the YouTube channel expects that the “first lightsaber duel” will be between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). He believes that Rey will suffer “a major loss” in this fight against Ren, who will have a scar across his face. Aside from this, another duel between Luke and Ren is also expected to happen.

Yesterday, we learned of the sad passing of Carrie Fisher. Fisher suffered a heart attack over the holiday weekend, and died on Tuesday. While her legions of fans mourned the loss of the talented writer and actress, they took comfort in knowing that they would be treated to yet another performance from her. Fisher had reprised her role as General Leia for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, and it wasn’t a surprise to learn she had shot all of her scenes since principal photography wrapped back in July.

According to Deadline, Leia had a larger role in Episode VIII, although “larger” leaves a lot of room for speculation since Leia was only in a handful of scenes in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So is she now in five scenes instead of four, or is she a presence throughout the film? There’s no way of knowing right now.

While Fisher completed her scenes for principal photography, we’re still left with the question of if she completed her ADR for the film, and we don’t know what reshoots will need to be done ahead of the picture’s release. The production will figure out a way forward, of course, and while I don’t expect any extreme measures like needing to CGI in Fisher, Disney has the considerable resources to help Johnson realize his vision.

Another question fans will have is what happens with Leia going forward? If the character survives Episode VIII, it will be difficult to put her in Episode IX (some may feel like the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One opens the door for a CGI General Leia, but it feels macabre in Rogue One and it would certainly feel disrespectful for Episode IX given the recentness of Fisher’s death).

Although some may argue that it’s too soon to discuss these questions, these questions come about because people loved seeing Fisher as Leia, and they hope that her final performance as the character will be as fully realized as possible given her untimely passing.

'Star Wars' Still Determining Leia's Future After Carrie Fisher's Death
By Katie Roberts, Posted January 5, 2017
leia, princess leia, general organa, carrie fisher, star wars, episode 8, episode 9
WARNING: This post contains some minor spoilers for "Star Wars: Episode VIII," "Episode IX," and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Read on at your own risk.

In the aftermath of the sudden death of "Star Wars" star Carrie Fisher last month, the creative team behind the franchise is still unsure of how to proceed with plans for her iconic character, Princess-turned-General Leia. And according to a new report, Fisher was to have featured prominently in at least two crucial scenes set for "Episode VIII" and "Episode IX," with the latter, still-unfilmed movie having more importance for the character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fisher's death is not only a devastating personal blow to her "Star Wars" family, but also throws some key plot points for the next two films in the new trilogy into chaos. Fisher had already completed work on "Episode VIII," and while it was initially unclear how she would have factored into "Episode IX," THR reports that her role in the latter flick was planned to be much more substantial than that in "VIII."

... [I]nsiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that at least two key scenes are planned for Episode VIII (Dec. 15) and Episode IX (2019): a Leia reunion with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and a confrontation with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), her son who killed Harrison Ford's Han Solo in 2015's The Force Awakens.

Details of where those scenes fit into the movies remain unclear.

Obviously, if Leia was to have had a big part in "Episode IX," that would require some major rewriting, and THR reports that director Colin Trevorrow is set to meet with Lucasfilm execs next week to discuss a plan for the character moving forward. But the trade also notes that unlike the situation surrounding the sudden death of Paul Walker while filming "Furious 7" in 2013, production on "Episode IX" is still a long way off (filming is likely set to begin sometime in early 2018), and filmmakers have some time to come up with a new game plan.m

One potential answer is including Leia in "Episode IX" through the magic of CGI. The character already made an altered appearance in "Rogue One" (alongside the also-deceased Peter Cushing) thanks to some digital trickery; could a similar feat be planned for future "Wars" flicks?

That's yet to be determined, and we likely won't know the answer for some time. Stay tuned.

Just CGI her in like they did in Rogue One. Not sure why people get butthurt over that. It's not like they're desecrating her corpse or something.

Well, mostly because the artist doesn't get to turn down work that they wouldn't do while living. It opens up a can of worms about IP. It tarnishes a legacy.

Robin Williams included in his will that his likeness cannot be used to make new content after his death. I bet we will see that become pretty standard in the next couple of years.

The first trailer is expected to arrive on April 14, at the Last Jedi panel at the Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando, Florida.
Frank Oz has “been asked not to talk about” playing Yoda.
Carrie Fisher’s scenes as General Leia have been filmed and will not be altered with CGI. The same is the case for Episode 9.
Mark Hamill’s first words in the film have been revealed.
The title The Last Jedi refers to more than one Jedi.
Disney’s CEO Bob Iger calls episode 8 “a great next chapter in the iconic Skywalker family saga.” Fans think this is a hint that Rey, like Kylo Ren, is a Skywalker.
The Databank pages on StarWars.com have confirmed that there is a “mysterious” and “strange” connection between Rey and Kylo Ren.
The packaging for a new Star Wars product – to be released on September 1, 2017 – has been shared by Star Wars. The packaging shows each member of the trio has a new look, but Rey’s is the most different. If you look closely, you’ll see she has a cut above her left eyebrow – and she still has Anakin Skywalker’s blue lightsaber.

Looks like Luke is training Rey to be a Jedi. Based on what he said in the trailer, I think she will be the last Jedi. Meaning she ultimately destroys Vader and the Emperor, bringing peace to the galaxy and, therefore, ending the need for Jedi knights.

Sounds more to me like Luke realized that the Jedi and Sith ways were both flawed. He's going to teach Rey to walk the middle path, Grey Jedi basically. They've been drawing pretty deeply from Legends so far and the reason Luke became so powerful in Legends was his ability to utilize both the light and dark side without committing totally to one or the other.

Until, of course, the next three movies...when a desert orphan has to help destroy the...second order...or the third Empire...or the fourth reich....with the help of a goofy droid and a weird alien mentor and an old guy. Different ones...totally different.

God I love the originality of this franchise!
