Under the knife.....again

Postby IronDog » Tue Sep 18, 2018 6:02 pm

Well, they are gonna unzip the scar a little this Thursday. Seems I've been living with an incisions hernia from surgery back in 1999, for crimony's sake. Unfortunately, for the past 6 months or so I have been dealing with severe pain from my guts to the point that I hardly notice the degenerated disc or the one I keep herniation. Hopefully this will be a quick solution.

Go ahead, wish me luck. I dare ya!

Speedy recovery, ID. I just had two MRIs in 4 weeks (wanted to do one with contrast 2nd time). Any time some jackass wants to cut you open is scary.

Agree with that crazy MoFo Outsider; go with the weed.

Just don't try to rush the recovery. I have a coworker that looks like an alien trying to get out of his chest due to a post-surgery hernia because he wouldn't wear the binder like they told him to. Even if you feel ok, give it time to fully heal.

Thanks for the good wishes folks.
Clw I went ahead and set up the short term disability claim.gives me the opportunity to get paid basically what my normal take-home is (actually a little bit less) by not doing all the typical taxes and what not deductions. That way, instead of burning my PTO (we don't get vacation/sick/other days, it's all rolled into personal time off for whatever reason) I can relax and do as you suggested. Originally I was gonna burn 2 days and spend the 2 weeks at home recovery working from home. This way, if I feel up to it I can, and if not, no worries.

I'll do my best to (enter Jean Luc Picard) "Make it so!"

Thanks everybody.

Interesting factoid...when they wheel you in, and after every person you have seen up to that point has made you tell them your name and birthdate, your surgeon's name and what they are doing to you, the anesthesiologist repeated the same, I said something about opening the zipper scar once again, for the fourth time, the guy made a remark that some time in the past they actually DID put zippers in people.

Crimony, I haven't seen the "new" incision yet....hope they didn't do THAT!

Well, got a look at the 6-inch long "2-inch" incision the other night at shower time, along with the two drains poking out (yuck). Three times before, the knife-wielders, including this one, have followed basically the same line, from just below the sternum to just above eunuch-ville. This time, he must have been distracted. Started out 2 inches higher up the old zipper scar than he told me, then about halfway down he started banking right and roaming into new territory. Sheesh. My wife tells me to not sweat it, cause my modeling days are well in the past. Hell, there are enough staples along this thing to require reloading the stapler.....twice! Gah!

If you have to do this again, hire a tattoo artist to come up with a cool design for you and insist that the surgeon follow it.

Pick up you right hand. Hold it upright in front of your face. Now you can handle the next step with an open hand or a closed fist. Ready cause this is the important part. You have to be fully committed now, ok. I know you're good for it counselor.

Pull your hand/fist as hard and fast as possible from the front of your head and don't stop until you make it at least 3 inches past the back of your head, in as straight a line as possible. If need be, repeat until the suggestion quoted goes away.

So, now that both drains have been removed, and since goop is still oozing from the drain holes, and the swelling in one spot is inflamed and hard, he tells me to grab some q-tips and jab/force the tip into the holes to make sure the fluid can still escape. Then, God help me, as if that wasn't bad enough, I have to continue to apply pressure to the swollen spots and try to massage the fluid out. First try I almost learned to fly. And afterward, my scar area is calling me all sorts of bad things, some of which I have never heard. Ouch, you SOB.
