Well there's not an easily available list of guys who have refused workouts. I know McCaffrey did and I know Su'a Cravens did. It clearly didn't hurt McCaffrey and Cravens went pretty much in the middle of the range of picks he was projected to go.

Also, the reason why McCaffrey didn't work out for teams is because he "received a draft guarantee from a team presently selecting in the teens" that "they will select him if he's still available."
With that extra variable, sure, you're risk/reward changes. If you tell me James has that, then I'll reconsider. If not, then he's not making the same choice and McCaffrey. Not to mention far more talented players than James have taken draft falls. James is coming off of a sloppy year post-injury.

I would want a long look at James. He hasn't been the same since that injury.

Indeed. He was already a pretty boom/bust kind of guy and just got a whole lot bustier.

Maybe if James hadn't skipped his work outs...

We had eight draft picks this year. Three of them were on the combine/visit/workout list, a hit rate of 37.5%. As a refresher, we drafted:

First rounder Vita Vea
Second rounder MJ Stewart
Sixth rounder Justin Watson
