2018 Team Draft Needs

AFC SOUTH

Houston Texans
Top Needs: OT, TE, NT

Houston is without a 1st or 2nd round pick right now. But that doesn't mean they are without resources, having 8 total picks including 3 in the 3rd. They could use those picks to add talent to their tackle position, as protecting QB Deshaun Watson will be a top priority. The Texans also need help at TE as long time Texan CJ Fiedorowicz hung up his cleats. Defensively, they could use beef up front in the middle of their defense.

Indianapolis Colts
Top Needs: OL, DL, LB

QB could easily be on this list and there is still mystery surrounding QB Andrew Luck and his shoulder injury 15 months after surgery. But assuming he's back, protecting him is at the top of the list. After missing out on OL Ryan Jensen, the Colts still need help up and down their Oline. Defensively, it's even worse. They are switching to a 4-3 defense and need help on the edge of their Dline. Their LB position has among the least amount of talent in the league so a boost on that unit will be much appreciated.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Top Needs: WR, ILB, TE

Jacksonville remained mostly intact for 2018 and don't have many needs. The Allen's are both gone so a true #1 WR should be on the radar. Paul Posluzney retired and the Jags will want a replacement for him, although SAM backer Myles Jack could be a candidate to take over inside. Austin Sefarian-Jenkins signed last month, but he's not much of a difference maker at the TE position. A true threat would help this offense open up.

Tennessee Titans
Top Needs: S, Edge, NT

The Titans need a quality compliment to All-Pro Kevin Byard on the back-end of their defense. Likewise, they could use more of an edge presence opposite Derrick Morgan, and could even look for someone to push Morgan himself. Up front, their NT position needs help. Especially to help improve against the run in 2018.

NFC SOUTH

Atlanta Falcons
Top Needs: DT, DE, TE

Falcons have big holes to fill at DT and DE literally and figuratively as Dontari Poe and Adrian Clayborn took their talents elsewhere. They could look to add talent up front defensively. Offensively ATL is fine but will need a starting TE as Toilolo left via free agency.

Carolina Panthers
Top Needs: DE, TE, WR

The Panthers brought back 38 year old sack leader Julius Peppers for another year but the wheels could fall off at anytime and they have no other presence on the edge. Likewise Greg Olsen is 33 and injuries are adding up for him. The Panthers need young playmakers in the passing game for Cam Newton.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints have next to nothing in their LB core. Manti Te'o is not the answer. The Saints lack true threats in the passing game, especially at TE. And it's just a matter of time now before the wheels fall off. They have to get an heir to Drew Brees.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Top Needs: CB, OG, S

Ageless wonder Brent Grimes returned for another year at 35 but Tampa would be wise to find a young upgrade. No LG with experience on the roster and oft injured Sweezy hasn't been very good. Chris Conte & Keith Tandy make an underwhelming compliment to Justin Evans. Upgrade needed.

AFC WEST

Denver Broncos
Top Needs: OLB, TE, RT

Von Miller is still in his prime but Shane Ray has been underwhelming and will be a FA after this season. The Broncos need a competent Edge rusher opposite Miller. Virgil Greene was a mediocre TE and left via FA, but he was all the Broncos had. Jake Butt could provide relief at the position after red-shirting last year but the Broncos would be wise to provide competition at the TE position. Menelik Watson was so bad the Broncos traded for Jared Veldheer, who isn't much better. They need young talent at RT.

Kansas City Chiefs
Top Needs: NT, CB, S

The Chiefs are missing a big body in the middle of their Dline. Grabbing a good Nose is a must. After trading away one of the best corners in football, Marcus Peters, KC should look to get a replacement. Kendall Fuller has played his career in the slot and David Amerson is not the answer. Daniel Sorensen is a nice player, but another playmaker at the safety spot opposite Eric Berry would help

Los Angeles Chargers
Top Needs: T, MLB, QB

Russell Okung and Joe Barksdale are the Chargers starting OTs. They desperately need an upgrade in talent. After switching the a 4-3 last season, no one on their roster stepped up as primary Mike LB. They could look to find a true Mike in the draft. Phillip Rivers will be 37 in December. The Chargers could seek to find their QBOTF in this draft.

Oakland Raiders
Top Needs: CB, LB, RB

The Raiders secondary was bad before they cut David Amerson. Now it's worse. They can't leave this draft without talent at corner. Their LB core is among the least talented in football. At RB Marshawn Lynch provided little spark. Doug Martin's value is unknown at this point. Oakland could look to find a new centerpiece to their run game.

NFC WEST

Arizona Cardinals
Top Needs: QB, WR, TE

Sam Bradford & Mike Glennon make up a QB tandem reliant on hope. You hope Bradford stays healthy, you hope Glennon lives up to the hype. They need a true answer at the most valuable position in football. Larry Fitzgerald will be 35 and has showed signs of slowing down in recent years. They have nothing behind him. At TE, Jermaine Gresham has been even worse than he was in Cincy. The Cardinals have nothing at TE.

Los Angeles Rams
Top Needs: C, Edge, LB

The Rams added a lot of talent this offseason, but still need help along their Oline. An upgrade at C to veteran John Sullivan would do them well. After trading away Robert Quinn, the Rams need a presence on the edge of their pass rush. And their LB group needs help top, to bottom. Especially at inside backer, where Mark Barron and Ramik Wilson would start.

San Francisco 49ers
Top Needs: WR, Edge, LB

Jimmy G did well starting for the Niners, but will need a go to receiver going forward. Pierre Garcon is not that guy and neither is Marquis Goodwin. After drafting Solomon Thomas 3rd overall last year, the Niners should look to find another edge rusher opposite him in their 4-3 defense. And FA acquisition Malcolm Smith missed all of 2017 with a pectoral injury. His return could provide a boost but either way the Niners need help in their LB group as the future of the talented yet troubled Reuben Foster is a mystery.

Seattle Seahawks
Top Needs: OL, DL, Playmakers

The Seahawks have so many needs. Most importantly their Oline is probably the worst in football. They could use upgrades across the board. Their Dline lost Michael Bennett and Sheldon Richardson. Cliff Avril is getting older as well. Outside of Frank Clark, there's not much along that line. And offensively, the Seahawks simply have no playmakers outside of Doug Baldwin. They need talent at RB, WR, and TE. Russell Wilson can't do it all on his own.

AFC NORTH

Baltimore Ravens
Top Needs: C, WR, ILB

Ryan Jensen signed with the Bucs, leaving the Ravens without a C on their roster. A replacement is a must. Baltimore signed John Brown and Michael Crabtree but still lack a true playmaker at the WR position. CJ Mosley is a great LB but the Ravens lack another consistent inside backer. Getting someone with more talent will help a pretty good defense become great.

Cincinatti Bengals
Top Needs: OL, LB, QB

The Bengals added Cordy Glenn but still need help on the inside of their Oline. Upgrades across the board would be welcome. Vontez Burfict is talented but can't stay out of trouble. The Bengals would be wise to keep their eye on adding talent to their LB group. And while Andy Dalton hasn't been the source of the Bengals problems, his consistency has been lacking. The Bengals could look to find an upgrade at the QB position to put them over the top.

Cleveland Browns
Top Needs: LT, QB, DT

Future HOF Joe Thomas retired last month, leaving a huge hole on the Browns Oline. A replacement is a month. Tyrod Taylor arrived to town, but everybody knows he's just there to help groom a young franchise QB, one they will likely address with the 1st overall pick. And after trading Danny Shelton, the Browns need a talented DT to shore up a pretty talented defensive front.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Top Needs: LB, S, RB

Ryan Shazier won't play this season and his NFL future is cloudy at best. The Steelers really missed him late in the year after his spinal injury. A viable replacement is in the cards. The Steelers pass D suffered a bit because of lack luster safety play. Another year, another franchise tag for Le'Veon Bell, who has put retirement in the minds of the Steelers FO. They could look to draft an insurance policy early.

NFC NORTH

Chicago Bears
Top Needs: Edge, OG, S

The Bears lack a true everydown edge rushing presence on their defense and it's caused a ton of problems for them. The Bears lost G Josh Sitton in FA and should look to draft a replacement. They also need depth along their Oline. And Eddie Jackson had a pretty good season and looks to improve, but the Bears need another saftey in their secondary.

Detroit Lions
Top Needs: OG, RB, S

The Lions Oline is pretty much set, aside from a big hole at LG. Addressing that spot will help protect Stafford as well as their run game. Speaking of their run game, the Lions signed Legarrette Blount, but at 32 he's not the answer at that spot. Neither are Theo Riddick or Ameer Abdullah. The Lions need better talent. The secondary is good at the corner spot, but the Lions could use 1 or 2 safeties.

Green Bay Packers
Top Needs: Edge, WR, OL

Clay Matthews has filled in at the inside backer spot some due to injuries. And at 32 he's on the decline. The Packers could stand to upgrade their edge rushing. Jordy Nelson is gone, Randall Cobb is meh. Outside of Davante Adams, the Packers need help at the WR position. The Oline suffered injuries all of 2017, especially at tackle. They could stand for talent and stability across the board

Minnesota Vikings
Top Needs: OL, CB, TE

The Vikings Oline is subpar at multiple positions. It really held them back in the NFC Championship game. Terrance Newman is finally gone at age 39 and Trae Waynes looks like a bust. The Vikings have to find a corner to compliment the rest of their secondary. Kyle Rudolph has always been just average. Getting a solid pass catcher for Kirk Cousins to go to will take this offense next level.

PICK ANALYSIS

1. CLEVELAND BROWNS: JOSH ROSEN, QB, UCLA

GRADE: B+

Cleveland kicks things off taking Josh Rosen 1st overall out of UCLA. The Browns had their pick of QBs and decided Rosen was going to be the next leader of their franchise. Rosen should be a good fit in head coach Hue Jackson's west coast type system. While the selection of QB was the right one, the pick it's self is a bit underwhelming. Rosen is a good prospect, but long term there are QBs in this draft with higher ceilings and better overall talent. Rosen doesn't have the big arm talent you see in guys taken 1st overall. And there are questions about his intangibles and leadership. But what Rosen does have is experience in a pro system, good footwork and technique, and he throws with accuracy. Whether he's the best QB out of this talented draft class is a question that will be answered in the future.

I agree with the Rosen write up except for the comment that he doesn't have the big arm talent part. Rosen may not have the arm strength of Josh Allen, but it certainly is still a plus for him. Rosen chucked one like 80yds at his pro day fwiw.

Injury history, leadership, etc are valid concerns with Rosen. But the guy spins it better than anyone in this class, or that has come out the past few years imo so the throwing talent is not a concern for me. It's just some of the other stuff you mentioned. But he and Darnold are coin flip on who should be the first QB selected imo.

Rosen's arm is legit. He's not going to throw the ball through a wall the way, say, Matthew Stafford does. But he can make every throw. His mechanics and footwork are pristine (though he does carry the ball a bit low.) He's what you'd call a "pure passer."

Really, it was the "personality" stuff that I had to get comfortable with. I read everything I could find and what it came down to was, he's a different kind of cat. Not a bad dude. Just an "own drummer" type. 99% of the stuff written about him being a bad teammate or whatever was unattributed "my cousin knew a guy" type stuff. The rest didn't scare me.

The guy I kept coming back to was Eli Manning. He was seen as a mopey prima-dog coming out of Ole Miss. He was seen as immature for refusing to play in San Diego (a threat Rosen has NOT made for the Browns or anyone else.) But he had icewater in his veins, like Rosen does. He could make all the throws, like Rosen can. He was fearless about trying to make a play, like Rosen is. Even the measurables are almost identical.

I feel like we drafted Eli Manning, and I expect a similar career. There will be some bad interceptions and some bad games (and months) but he will win a lot of games, and maybe some titles, over a 15+ year career.

Rosen is the best QB in this draft class IMO. The only reason I think Cleveland is going to pass on him in real life is because it appears as though he's let them know he isn't interested in playing for them.

It's Interesting the Bucs do not have a need at RB.

It's not a "Top Need". Important distinction.

Good to see that it's not a "Top Need". But that is news to me. Being that this team ranked 27th in Rushing, lost a Martin, and the Depth is very very bad. I would say that qualifies RB as a Top Need.

Just like the real NFL draft unpredictable and it can happen. I am going to beat this dead horse over and over, the first 4-5 picks are more than likely going to be QBs. It's all on what the Giants do. Cleveland is sitting pretty, they should be the ones trading out of 4 easily.
