Giants fans are elated that Barkley falls past the #1 overall pick

But Gettleman's more prudent than that, and knows that he's got 1 good year left with Eli - then it's potentially into purgatory if the Giants don't address the future at QB.

Giants select:

Image

Sam Darnold, USC

Nobody's fooling themselves about Davis Webb being the future there in NY. That O-line is terrible. Plugging in Barkley in an effort to push for a title behind that garbage O-line is short sighted. So they let Darnold sit for a year while they work to address the o-line the rest of this year's draft and FA, with maybe a premium pick spent on a tackle next year - and let Eli run around with a chicken with his head cut off back there like he always has. Shurmur makes things a little bit easier on the O-line, with a change of offensive scheme, and ensures that the transition from Eli to Darnold goes smooth. Darnold is the pick because the Giants don't like Rosen's concussion/injury/attitude concerns and Mayfield might add too much kindle to a lockerroom that's already busting with pressure and expectations. Darnold is the steady, sturdy riser they need. They need help on D as well, Chubb is a consideration, but primarily, the new regime wants to ensure they've got their franchise QB to take them into this next era.

The Indianapolis Colts are proud to select Bradley Chubb, DE.

Image

"We considered Barkley, but liked what we saw from Marlon Mack last year. Our pass rush has been dreadful since our Freeney/Mathis days. Chubb brings tremendous play as a pass rusher, against the run, and a dog mentality that we hope changes the culture of our defence."

With the 4th pick the Cleveland Browns select Saquon Barkley, RB Penn State

It came down to either him or Nelson and I figured in the short term transition, the rookie QB could use a weapon to open up the field

The Arizona Cardinals are pleased to trade up to select our quarterback of the future: Josh Rosen QB, UCLA.

We feel he is the best pure passer in this draft. Great mechanics, accuracy, and touch, and more than adequate arm strength to make the tough throws. Some have questioned his coachability, but after the interview, we feel very comfortable having him as our leader. With an excellent running game and veteran wide receiver corps, we feel he will be put into the best possible position to succeed.

Our IT department is having issues with posting an action shot of the young man. Perhaps our GM's work-based firewall is to blame, or alternatively, the archaic internet explorer she is forced to use.

With the 8th pick the Chicago Bears select DB Minkah fitzpatrick

With both Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller set to become free agents, adding a versatile defensive back like Fitzpatrick would be a welcomed addition to a secondary that lacks playmakers.

With the 9th pick of the 2018 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers select: Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State

Image

Our team is on the rise. Once Garoppolo took over the starting job, our offense was one of the best in football. The middle of our defense is stout; we have no issue getting to third down on defense. Our issues were getting off the field once we got to those critical third downs.

Meet the first part of our solution to that problem, Mr Denzel Ward. He's the best cover man in the draft. His man coverage is dominant and his zone coverage is top notch. Not only do we think that Denzel Ward is the best cover corner in the draft, we also think he's the most physical, despite his smaller stature. He can match up with big receivers or quick ones, and he will shadow them all game long. He allowed a 32% completition percentage the past two years at Ohio State. We think he has Pro Bowl potential early in his career.

Some people will boo this selection, saying that co-GMS Lynch and Cheb should have reached for a pass rusher, or taken a different corner such as Jackson for Iowa, who as a larger cornerback would perhaps fit our cover-3 defense better. To the first criticism, we say that we couldn't overlook a coverage talent of his caliber given our current cornerback depth, and our board just didn't work out that way to land a pass rusher at this stage of the draft. To the second criticism, look at our division, the NFC West; the majority of wide receivers are quick and shifty players whose chief goal is to outfinesse you rather than outphysical you. Indeed, the only receiver in our division taller than 6'1" who is a real threat is Larry Fitzgerald, a saavy 15 year veteran who wins more plays with his route running rather than his brawn. We would rather have a smaller corner contesting every route than a bigger one giving up easy throws.

We would like to thank the teams who selected ahead of us for gifting us the best cover corner in the draft.

Welcome to San Francisco, Mr Ward. You're going to love it here.

With the 10th pick of the 2018 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select: Roquan Smith, Linebacker, Georgia.

Image

This Consensus All-American and Butkus Award winner was the best linebacker in college football last year. He had 137 tackles, 14 TFLs, 18 QB pressures, and 6.5 sacks in the SEC. We want to bring that kind of production to a defense sorely in need of it.

Roquan Smith is an excellent off the ball linebacker with has true sideline-to-sideline range. He can rush the passer is a blitzer. He does a great job of shifting through the trash in the box, he can cover well in man and zone, and he slips blockers like Floyd Mayweather slips jabs. He's a team captain with excellent leadership abilities. Intelligent with tremendous football character. We think he's a future All-Pro. Some of our scouts think he's the next Derrick Brooks, only faster. Coach Gruden, per usual, smirks at such comparisons.

We thought about selecting a player in the secondary here, but we have faith that Gareon Conley and Obi Melifonwu will rebound from their disappointing rookie seasons under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Paul Guenther. Besides, when you have a linebacker of Roquan's talent available, and you need linebacking talent, don't overthink it.

Whether he stays at middle linebacker or slides to the weakside in the pros, we are incredibly pleased that we have selected a three-down linebacker who we hope will be a lifelong Raider.

Welcome to Oakland, Mr Smith. A word of wisdom; don't buy a house just yet.

With the 11th pick in the draft the Miami Dolphins select S Derwin James, FSU.

We’re excited to add a playmaking safety of James’ caliber to our defense. With the addition of Robert Quinn, we feel we could afford to take BPA for our defense.

With the 12th pick in the NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals Select:

Image

LB, Tremaine Edmunds

This is a no-brainer for co-GM's Beard McDoug and Whatshis Butt - the Bengals have a glaring need at LB, and an absolute beast just fell to them. The Bengals' LB corps has fallen apart recently, and Burfict is all they've got, talent-wise, but even he is just a part-time player between suspensions and injuries. The severe lack of talent at the second level in that Bengals defense showed up in the stat sheet last season, as the Bengals were 31st in rush yards allowed, 31st in DVOA against opposing TE's, and were 31st in takeaways (14 total - 1 more than the Browns, and 20 fewer than the league-leading Ravens). Some may point to the glaring needs at O-line, but the GM's don't like the talent available this year, particularly at this pick, and have expressed their willingness to make some moves in FA to possibly address some needs there.

The 6' 5" 250 Edmunds is a playmaker and has everything you want - size, speed (just posted a 4.54 40 at the combine), and no character concerns. He can play all 3 LB positions, he's rangey sideline to sideline, has excellent pass rush skills, solid tackling technique, he pops on film, and has the size to matchup and disrupt TE's. He's a can't miss prospect for a team desperately in need of a playmaker at his position. Bengals feel like they struck gold with this pick.

With the 13th pick in the NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select:

Image

Vita Vea - DT - Washington

The Redskins pick up an anchor for their young and promising DLine. Vea will combine with last year's first round pick, Jonathan Allen, to give the Redskins both size, speed and power. Throw in Preston Smith and Ryan Kerrigan and there is a lot of talent for the Redskins D.

Vea is surprisingly nimble for a man of his size and is the rare talent that can provide pass rush help from the nose tackle position.

With the 14th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers select

Image

Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama

Head coach Mike McCarthey made it clear that the defense needs to play better than the offense. As such GM Bootz went out and got what we feel is the best defender available. Evans will slide right in the middle next to Blake Martinez to help a pretty bad run D and pass rush. Evans is an amazing blitzer and overall tackler and will help us as we continue building our defense.

With the 15th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Image

Mike McGlinchey - OT - Notre Dame

The Broncos need QB help, but after failing in the draft (Lynch, Siemian, Kelly) they push hard to obtain a veteran option. Counsins, Keenum, McCarron, Bridgewater, and Bradford could all be options and elevate the offense.

Now they need to protect their new free agent QB. McGlinchey is the best OT in this class and will add to the Broncos young, but talented OL. Last year's 1st round OT , Garrett Bolles showed promise, and with McGlinchey added to the fold the Broncos should be set at OT for the next decade.

With The 16th Pick In The 2018 NFL Draft, The Baltimore Ravens Select...

Image

Marcus Davenport, EDGE, University Of Texas-San Antonio

It was a tough decision here, because there were other prospects we liked who would have filled more obvious needs. That said, we haven't remained relevant in Baltimore for the better part of 20 years by reaching for need. Davenport was one of our top five prospects in this class. We see him as an upgrade opposite from, and eventually a replacement for, Terrell Suggs.

With the 18th pick the Seattle Seahawks select Courtland Sutton WR SMU. This was not the position we were planning to address with our first-rounder as we have some major holes on our OL that need filling but we did not think this guy would exit the top 10. This gives us the luxury of not having to retain and overpay Richardson and Graham so we can sign a T and G in FA and get our run game going.

Josh Jackson - CB - Iowa

The Bills feared Jackson was not going to make it to their pick. They used their draft capital to get their guy. We are pleased to have landed the best ballhawking corner in the draft. Jackson’s ball skills are top notch. With the loss of Gilmore, we feel Jackson adds some punch to our secondary.

Darrius Guise, RB LSU

Let's face facts, we have not had a 1,000 yard rusher in nearly 5 years. Matt Patricia loves defense, but Guise is going to give coach a chance to get the most out of his defense by keeping them fresh. Guise has the ability to take over games and keep Matthew Stafford off the turf. We're happy he's here and expect big things from him.

With the 21st pick in the 2018 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys select: Calvin Ridley, WR Alabama...

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/calvin-ridley?id=32462018-0002-5600-1177-bcdc902b08a4

(On phone can't post pic so I dropped in a link)

While we had potential "needs" at LB, CB and DT, we, and our fanbase, firmly believe that in order for our team to take the next step, our offense must be more explosive, thus not allowing teams to key on our run game.

While Calvin isn't the big body type WR as one of our other targets (Sutton) the traits he brings to the table (speed for days, excellent route running etc) will surely make us more difficult to defend. It's been said that Calvin is a step below Amari Cooper coming out, however Cooper went top 10, we feel like we are getting a true bargain snagging Ridley at 21...

LIKEWISE, keeping in the vein of addressing our offensive needs, we have traded our original 3rd round pick (number 94?) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for TE Cam Brate.

With Jason Whitten near the end of his road, giving up a 3rd round pick for a TE who has proven to be ultra reliable for a young QB and whom led the position in TD catches in 2016 is beyond a bargain, it's a flat out steal...

With the 22nd pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The Buffalo Bills select..

Image

Lamar Jackson - QB - Louisville

We didn’t think we’d be taking back to back Jacksons today, but here we are. We take our QBotF here. Jackson has all the tools to become a very good QB in this league. He is a PLAY MAKER. Whether through the air or breaking off a massive run, he is going to give defenses fits. We have confidence that our coaching staff will put him in the best situation to succeed.

Trading for Peters took us out of the CB market, but trading Quinn to the Dolphins put us in the pass rusher market. Our defense was always best with Donald and Quinn chasing down QBs. We think Landry can give us that production we’ve been missing.

With the 26h overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:

Taven Bryan, DL - Florida

With Poe, Upshaw, and Clayborn all hitting FA we need to replace those aging vets with some premium draft picks. Taven Bryan is an ideal DL for Dan Quinn's defense with his ability get upfield and be disruptive. Bryan provides great versatility as a guy that can be a base end in addition to kicking inside to rush the QB.

With the 28th pick in the NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Image

Connor Williams - G/T - Texas

The Denver Broncos are ecstatic to trade up to select Connor Williams. We may have been robbed in the trade process, but obtaining a player of this value was imperative. Especially with the 1st round OG pool drying up.

The pick of Williams gives the Broncos an upgrade at LG, but also doubles down on insurance for McGlinchey. Williams has the ability to play tackle if needed. His ability will provide an immediate increase in talent, and his flexibility will provide confidence that an injury to either tackle will not derail our season.

Denver feels that we have walked away from the first round with two of the best OL in the draft.

With the 29th pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State.

With several offensive line targets off the board, we decided to go in a different direction and add to the offensive arsenal for Blake Bortles. With Allen Robinson gone and Marcedes Lewis old, we went with someone who can be a weapon in the passing game and also help block for our feature back. He's oozing with potential, and we're very excited about adding him to the team.
