But I can flat tell you that I would not have been in here whining that they should be playing for the National Championship. Why? Because of their competition. It is really that simple. Like has been said, it's not UCF's or USF's fault that they didn't play a "tough P5" schedule when that is next to impossible given the current state of NCAAF. They very well may be that good, but they're not going to get the chance to prove it. As a USF fan, I may not like it, but I certainly can understand it. Get in the P5, then whine if you go undefeated in the regular season but the committee snubs you. If it were up to me, I'd put both these Florida schools in the P5. I think they both would acquit themselves well.

I think the only answer to this P5/G5 pissing contest is to expand the playoffs to 8-10 teams.

Expanding still would not have got UCF or any non power school in. UCF was ranked 12th. They would have been left out.

Then refer to my comment in the 1st paragraph.

I was going to edit to say this. I only pointed out Babe because he always attempts to talk to her, regardless of how far gone she is. It usually blows up in his face. Then I doubled down jokingly. I like Ken, a lot...even though he thinks I'm an ass.

Hey are they handing those invitations out? Sure give them one. You guys act as if they didn't try, I will repeat, when the Big 12 was talking about expanding UCF submitted everything to try and join, but guess what the BIG 12 pulled back on expansion.

People act as if the 2nd largest collage in the US is purposely ducking joining. They haven't gotten any invites, these conferences just don't let you join out of nowhere.

Of course it's hard to get in. If it were easy, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

That’s before my time but I’m assuming that’s a year they claim a title where they weren’t AP/UPI champs? If so, my criticism stands

If you don't live in Florida, you can count Alabama as the National champions. But if you live in the Sunshine State, it's official.

After FSU and Miami embarrass themselves on national TV, time to crank this back up. UCF should jump both in the polls after rolling in their opener.

Not as of now, though they did schedule UNC and Pitt as part of their out of conference schedule which isn’t too shabby. But the real tests while be the end of the year against USF/potential conference championship and bowl game. Not saying it will happen, and it probably won’t, but if they were somehow undefeated at the end of the year can you keep them out of the playoff?

I know some will point to their schedule and say they didn’t play anyone worthwhile, but going undefeated the year prior and potentially winning all your games should count for something.

If they aren’t playing ranked teams they shouldn’t be rewarded with a good bowl game.

Seems like scamming the system.

Sports are a meritocracy and the only way to be considered the best is to beat the best opponents.

UCF seems to be the only team that wants to be considered a top 10 program without actually beating ranked teams.

Not saying they can't or they are not a good team. But it seems they are trying to litigate their relevance via water cooler talk instead beating a handful of ranked teams like every other top program does.

To be fair, you can't beat ranked teams unless you play ranked teams.

Agreed, which was the point and why I posted the original question if UCF plays any ranked teams this year.

Not trying to blame UCF for their schedule, it is what it is. But you can't blame anyone else either since other teams manage to schedule ranked teams. I realize schedules are done years in advance, but at the same time you can't beat a bunch of unranked teams and try to convince people you're a top program. That's not how sports works imo.

Yep...if you aren't in a P5 and you have zero top 25 wins, not only do you not get into the playoffs....many years you shouldn't even be in the New Year's six (though I know the new rules say you would get in)

(A P5 win no top 25 wins shouldn't get in the playoffs either (unless you are down to 2 and 3 loss teams as the alternative)

It's partially UCF's fault. Their demand for a home and home trade is a bit ridiculous. As a non power 5 team they should accept road games from larger conference schools without any stipulations.

I don't think all of this will matter in the next 2-3 years. I think UCF and possibly USF will be adsorbed by a P5 conference and there will be a separation of P5 and non-P5 as far as bowls.

That’s a fair argument, and I agree. It’s too bad though, playoff system should be top 6-8 which would give teams like UCF a chance each year to go up against the big boys. And like last year when given the chance (against Auburn) they may surprise.
