Just a few weeks away....we have some good non-conference matchups:

Wyoming @ Iowa
Michigan vs. Florida
Nebraska @ Oregon
Oklahoma @ Ohio State
Notre Dame @ Michigan State

It will be weird seeing Big 10 games in the first week of the season

Should be a good year...fairly balanced

I'm looking at Wisc vs. Ohio State for the championship

but wouldn't be surprised if PSU or Mich took the East (who I think have the best 2 QBs in the league).

While we might not be the strongest at the top, I do think there is good depth this year .... with the four mentioned above ... we also have Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Mich State, Northwestern...possibly all making bowls.

As a Buckeye fan, I'm excited to see the defense, particularly the front 4 and see what Mike Weber can do at RB.

I'm least confident in the WR position

Don't sleep on Indiana. I think they're good team.

They might upset Ohio state or penn state :). Hopefully not to Michigan

The conference as a whole is getting better. As with every conference in College ball the top couple of teams get all of the national spotlight, but Top to bottom the B1G just keeps getting stronger.

Back in the day they tried to explain the dropoff of Michigan, OSU, ND, Penn St. to recruits not wanting to play in cold weather anymore. That seems to be much less the case these days.

The dropoff was due to HS football in the south consistently being able to produce a higher quantity of quality prospects. Mostly due to the weather that allows football to be a year round sport. For evidence look at the players drafted into the NFL and the states in which they played HS football. It's not even close... Every year it's Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California as the top four. Even smaller southern states like Alabama and Mississippi getting more players drafted annually than much more heavily populated states in the North.

The southern/warm weather colleges will likely continue to have an advantage based on recruiting geography. The cream of the crop up north (OSU, ND, Mich, etc) will still be able to cherry pick kids from the south, but it's those middle of the pack B1G schools that will continue to hurt the most.

There are a lot great universities with great fans in the northeast and rust belt states, but the universities in the South have caught up in terms of prestige and even surpassed them in terms of overall fan support.

The conference does look very strong this year. Agree with MB. The Huskers winning in Eugene against a down Oregon program with a new coach will be a huge indicator of where the program is at with Riley. I really think we have a chance to compete in the West if Tanner Lee makes good.

We are saying the same thing. Those HS prospects were choosing not to play at cold weather schools back in the 90's. What I was saying is that is much less the case these days. Even WVU pulls prospects from Florida every year.

Yes, the quality of HS programs in the south and California has made recruiting in those states nearly mandatory. Harbaugh and Meyer are able to pull some of the top guys out of these states which has led to the resurgence of these programs and the conference as a whole.

I think it's also relevant that there are now so many talented athletes, who have been in camps and travels teams for their entire lives, that there aren't enough relevant southern schools to hold them all. There are so many prep players who would have been marginal a generation ago, but have been polished into diamonds by 12 years of intense football education and training that they're factors now. There are just too many of them for one region to hold.

Another unrelated factor - there just happen to be a lot of really great coaches at Northern schools right now. Harbaugh, Meyer, Franklin, Ferentz, Dantonio...and a bunch of other really promising younger coaches in the Big Ten especially.

Games start up tomorrow night.

Who would have thought we would ever see the day that the B1G would be having a CONFERENCE game on a Thursday night in week 1 of college football?

While I'm glad everyone seems to think we win it all the time, in actuality we have only won 1 of the 6 Big 10 Championship games.

That being said, we are the only program in the conference that consistently battles for the BCS/playoff type bowls....having 2 out of 3 Playoff appearances and 10 BCS bowl appearances (most of any school in nation).

Alright, so I thought Kevin Wilson, the IU head coach that OSU got as OC, was a young bald headed African American. Who did I have him confused with? Was IUs OC a younger black guy?

This will be our downfall. We don't have a legitimate traditional target to go to on 3rd down who can beat his guy one on one. Just a bunch of small shifty guys who can run in space.

Another year of too much side to side and not enough up and down

That dude (#1) on IU is a beast!!

I've never been less impressed with 600 yards of offense then I was yesterday.

Utah State made that a game with the Badgers...for about 20 minutes. Good on them. It might have been 40 if they'd avoided dumb turnovers. I wasn't impressed with Wisconsin at all. The must still be working the kinks out.
