It's boring.
It would be considered a reach for the position.
I don't care.

I want Quenton Nelson. I'm all in on his bandwagon (unless he stays).

In game planning the draft, you gotta assume in at least one scenario that Chubb is off the board.

We need to find that dark horse edge rusher.

A pick at 255 would indicate a compensatory pick. We also picked up Pittsburgh's 6th round pick in exchange for J.J. Wilcox. They also got our 7th round pick in 2018. But Miami owns our 7th round pick this year.

The best pass rusher in the draft, the Remington winner who can play anywhere on the interior, a serviceable midround back still recovering from injury, a talented and physically gifted cornerback, Gholston's twin who can rush better, a physically gifted defensive tackle to rotate in, a developmental strong safety with experience at free strong and nickle, a developmental Toledo QB (sit down Gradkowski), and a good center?

Eat your heart out.

It helps when you use Matt Millers big board.

Speaking of mocks, McShay has us taking Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell at 7. Yuck. Talk about reaching to fill a need. I think Ferrell will be a starter, but he isn't the impactful edge we need who will make a difference. 7 is WAY too high. I'm not the biggest Key fan, but I'd much rather gamble on Key being great than settling for mediocre Ferrell is we are going the first round DE route and Chubb is off the board.

I saw that too. Gambling is something I don't like with a first round pick and Nelson was on the board in that mock.

Nelson would be a great pick, but if we're picking 7th, I think I'd rather get the RB in round 1 and the LG in round 2.

Which combo do you prefer?
Option 1
R1
Nelson
R2
Love/Jones

Option 2
R1
Barkley/Guice
R2
Price/Henderson

I think I like option 2, but I've been going back and forth on this.

If you think Ferrell is mediocre then you must have every other DE in this draft sans Chubb and Key. Ferrell will be one of those draft season risers you'll grow to love come March or April. Great size, great athletic ability and awareness. I'd be happy with him in the 1st round.

He's a worse prospect than Shaq Lawson was a couple of years ago IMO. I liked Shaq quite a bit, and think he'll be a good player if he stays healthy, but Ferrill is not as good as him and 7 is too rich for that type of guy.

Considering that your opinions are mostly proven wrong its not surprising you'd compare those 2. They are completely different prospects. Lawson is stronger, better at setting the edge, stronger at the POA. Ferrell is way more athletic, he's more disruptive, has higher upside as a pass rusher because of his length and natural abilities. He's going to rise. Guys like him do not grow off trees.

I get proven right probably more than anyone on this site! Travis Kelce, Mike Evans, Danielle Hunter, Alvin Kamara... and those are just debates I had with Cheb (arguably the smartest football guy who posts here).

I compare them because I watch Clemson a fair bit, and both played the same position against similar competition. Lawson had a motor that wouldn't quit, and was more productive as a pass rusher. I'd also say Lawson was a much better athlete than given credit for, he was/is "bad bodied" but he had underrated twitch on the field and had a very good combine which offers additional evidence. I'm curious what Ferrell does at the combine, but looking at the raw tape, he doesn't appear to be a better athlete than Lawson to me (even if he's in better shape).

Ferrell isn't built like traditional twitchy pass rushers. He has a great deal of bulk and size to him. But comparing him and Lawson in terms of athletism isn't really a comparison. Ferrell pops out on tape. He is great using his hands and fighting off blocks. Wait for the combine all you want. He likely will run 4.7 or 4.8 in the 40. But this guy will be a disruptive force in the NFL.

You gotta be careful with these YouTube "Clellin Ferrell vs" type of scouting. The Ferrell tape for example is sped up.

Having watched both Ferrell and Lawson a fair bit live, they are very comparable athletes.

If that's how you scout, then good for you. Having watched them both as well they do not compare what so ever. The differences are obvious. But you won't see it.
