I'd go absolutely bananas for freshman Derwin James, but he's not that player right now, though he has seemingly improved in recent weeks. We've had an abysmal track record of evaluating the health of prospects in the past, hopefully we've resolved that so we can give Derwin's knee a proper eval to know what we'd be getting with him. He might have the highest positive impact of anyone in the draft if he can get right, and we absolutely need a game changing player in our secondary.

If not James, then I think we're looking at Fitz or Nelson. I'd be fine either way. If Nelson is truly as devastating as people believe he'll be, then I'm all aboard with drafting him. We need some toughness, and nothing is tougher than a next level elite guard pounding your toughest guy's **** in the dirt for four quarters. There should be plenty of backs available early second for us to place behind Nelson.

The position I'm looking at in round 1 would be RB, OL, DL, or possibly DB.

Quentin Nelson could be the best guard since Logan Mankins in his prime . I am all about defense but having a really dominate Oline is intriguing

I'm watching the Penn State/Rutgers game and they just said Barkly has had negative offensive yardage in 5 of the last 9 quarters. I definitely want a RB but not in the first. I love watching Barkley play but there is nothing that tells me in 3 seasons Barkley will be better than Love will be better than Harris will be better than Chubb will be better than Guice will be better than Michel will be better than Jones, etc. Take the best guy that falls in your lap in round 2 and you'll likely be doing backflips with a smile on your face watching him this time next year.

They don't just need game changing players, but culture changing players. Something like the report on Jamal Adams: not just "this guy is a great player" but "this guy changes your entire defensive group". If there's a guy like that either on the D-line or in the secondary, I'd be all for it (even if a slightly better player who lacks that mentality is there for the taking).

That's my point. If there is a solid corner, tackle or DE prospect there in round 2 we could wait until round 3 to take a RB and be happy as hogs in slop, especially if the dude is running behind Nelson. There might be more great RB prospects this year than last, we just need to actually select one this time.

There's a good collection of runners in this class.

Aside from the guys mentioned you have guys like:
Damien Harris from Bama (really like)
Bo Scarborough from Bama
Kamryn Pettway from Auburn
LJ Scott from Michigan state
Akrum Wadley from Iowa
Mike Webber from Ohio state

There's more.

Pettway is done for the season with a broken bone in his shoulder, but kerryon Johnson is the better of the 2 anyway, much better!

He's a junior. I won't be surprised if he stays in Auburn one more year.

The 9ers and Giants are playing so, provided we lose, we'll inch closer to one of them.

Indeed. If we can't nab Barkley I'm all for waiting it out. It's a nice group here. Lots of winners.

Don't forget Bryce Love as well. He reminds me of Bell, not only does he have speed for days but he seems to simultaneously be quick and patient at the same time. I'm all for winning some more games, making a playoff push, falling short, and grabbing Nelson in round 1. Turn around and grab a RB in Day 2. I also really like Damien Harris, think he can be a great pro. Lots to like in this draft.

He's my favorite RB in this class, just like Cook was last year. I am actually scared watching him run, his stops and cuts are so strong I keep thinking he's a non contact injury waiting to happen. Sure, there's no way of knowing, but that's just the feeling I get. Still my favorite RB.

Pettway will be back KJ will be going to the NFL if he continues to play up to the level he's on right now to finish the season.

I'm a big fan. I remember watching LSU last year and even with all the Fournette hype I kept thinking that Guice could be just as good. He reminds me of AP in the sense that he's got tremendous speed but plays angry and finishes runs with violence. I'm a fan for sure. Want to see him receive a bit more before I call him the all around stud that Barkley is.

Love had already been mentioned in this thread, my goal was to introduce some new names into the RB discussion.

Rashaad Penney from San Diego State is another guy. Haven't seen him play, but he is a Mid Season 2nd team All American.

We need to take a RB rather high in this draft and not wait for the leftovers and get stuck with a bust like we did this year. Is DM even coming back considering his salary and current production?

I very much doubt Mike Webber comes out this year. He was hurt for the first half of the season and didn't really get a lot of carries to show himself off

yep, I've watched a little bit of Guice and I've seen all I need to see, he's my guy too

Would love it if we could snag Nelson with our first pick and then end up with Guice somehow too

My notes on Guice:

Willing to p/u blitz but not epic at it. Can look dominant at times and ordinary at others. Fights through contact. Not the best catching. Game breaker in space

That was watching one game, but I don't remember which.

Not a Penny fan, at all. He runs very upright, he tap-dances, and he's a short stepper. I'd call him a poor man's Michael Pittman.
