I disagree with this simulator's choice of team needs.

We need a quarterback, offensive tackle, defensive end, and offensive guard.

There's your first four rounds and everyone in rounds 5-7 is either a project or a crap shoot, BPA at that point works.

This is a year to draft for need, we must keep our new QB upright, because in the final analysis HE is the draft, and our line bites.

Even if you disagree with this, the computer picks badly and it forces you to pick badly from having a selection of players in each round that have little to do with what teams would really pick or leave unpicked and available for you.

I trust climate models more than this simulator, and that's saying a lot.

I am not even sure if the team needs come from the simulator itself or if they come from the feed of the big board you pick. Last year they had 4 different big boards you can pick from. Though I think I only started playing around with it closer to the draft. My guess is the other big boards just aren't available yet. Then at that point you might find something you like more.

I would take it as more for fun than anything else. Though I do agree with the majority of the Bucs needs on it, but they also have us needing about every position. I have been using it for fun and also to familiarize myself with prospects a little as you get to your pick and want to look up some of the players to get an idea on them.

There is a version of it you can pay to use. That might be more realistic or could just add features like trading and viewing scouting information. Though its impossible to make it real because not even the teams know what each other are going to do or what they will do. I do feel it makes things interesting by having some players go higher than projected and lower than projected as that happens every draft.

Postby pewterpirates » Mon Jan 19, 2015 1:32 pm

I did this one on first-pick.com

The trading at the top of the draft in this simulation was crazy. I traded back with Oakland and Jacksonville to move to 4 and picked up two extra 2nds, a 3rd and a 4th. That would be awesome if it happened. Not that it would though.

Your score is: 4704 (GRADE: B+)

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 4 (OAK): Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State (A)
Round 2 Pick 2: Cameron Erving, C, Florida State (B+)
Round 2 Pick 3 (OAK): Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon (B-)
Round 2 Pick 4 (JAX): Nate Orchard, DE, Utah (B+)
Round 3 Pick 1: Tre' Jackson, OG, Florida State (B+)
Round 3 Pick 3 (JAX): Josh Harper, WR, Fresno State (A)
Round 4 Pick 4 (JAX): Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami (Ohio) (B)
Round 4 Pick 10: Devonte Fields, DE, TCU (C-)
Round 5 Pick 26: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State (B)
Round 6 Pick 2: Martrell Spaight, OLB, Arkansas (B)
Round 6 Pick 8: Matt Jones, RB, Florida (A)
Round 7 Pick 1: Clayton Geathers, SS, UCF (C-)

Your Future Picks:
2016 Round 1 Pick
2017 Round 1 Pick

While this draft would be stupendous, it isn't realistic. It's pretty easy to go hog wild on the simulators that allow trades.

I did say in my post, "not that it would happen"

I didn't even propose any of the trades. They were all computer simulated trade proposals. On the first-pick website, there's usually a couple of different trade options. But like I already said, and you echoed, not too much of it is accurate

On the free agency simulator I find it strange that renegotiating contracts it does for you while signing new players you are left completely to yourself. It was fun but I still like the mock draft more.

Also onto the mock draft, it looks like they now have 5 big boards to choose from. I remember before some felt more accurate than others.

I use the "composite" ranking on fanspeak.com. No trades, although I find myself tempted to trade down in the 2nd round since the OT's I want are all gone.

1 - R1P1 QB JAMEIS WINSTON FLORIDA STATE
34 - R2P2 OLB PAUL DAWSON TCU

106 - R4P10 WR PHILLIP DORSETT MIAMI (FL)

Those mock simulators need to put DJ Humphries higher on their big board. There is no way he goes later than the top 50 overall.

I'm not sure why all the draft experts had him so low to begin with. I'm not saying he's the best OT prospect (although others do), but he has the size, body type, and athleticism that team value. The biggest concern w/ DJ was his weight (reportedly played near 280lbs last year), but he weighed in yesterday at 307lbs. He's a legit franchise LT prospect imo.

You answered your own question - he played at 280 last year. There hasn't been an elite tackle to play in this league that light since Anthony Munoz 25 years ago. That's why he was so low. Now that he's checked in at 307, so long as he can still show the needed athleticism/stamina in workouts, he'll rocket right up the boards. In fact, he could be in play at #34 I think.

That said, I still have some raw feelings about Gator tackles.

Took Jameis to for fun, but look at this draft. Obviously it'll never happen, but this would be a dream come true:

1: R1P1
QB JAMEIS WINSTON
FLORIDA ST
34: R2P2
OT ANDRUS PEAT
STANFORD
65: R3P1
DE DANIELLE HUNTER
LSU
106: R4P10
WR BRESHAD PERRIMAN
CENTRAL FLORIDA
154: R5P26
C B.J. FINNEY
KANSAS ST
160: R5P32
OLB BEN HEENEY
KANSAS
168: R6P8
CB BRYRON JONES
CONNECTICUT
193: R7P1
CB QUANDRE DIGGS
TEXAS

Good Mock RBF

They just added another BigBoard from Matt Miller @nfldraftscout to fanspeak.com. The site will be updating the 'composite' ranking next week.

1 - R1P1 QB JAMEIS WINSTON FLORIDA STATE
34 - R2P2 DE OWA ODIGHIZUWA UCLA
59 - R2P27 OT ERECK FLOWERS MIAMI (FLA.)
106 - R4P10 CB SENQUEZ GOLSON OLE MISS
154 - R5P26 OG JEREMIAH POUTASI UTAH
168 - R6P8 WR STEFON DIGGS MARYLAND

The more of these I see, the more I feel that getting a DE w/ our 2nd pick will provide the best outcome. This is a pretty deep class of OT and the odds seem to be better that we can find opening day starters at both DE and OT if we draft them in that order.

The '2nd tier' of pass rushers (Harold, Owa, Preston Smith, Orchard, Hunter?) are all gone by pick 65. But a quality OT seems to fall every time. That's using various B available on the site.

A fun exercise either way..

My thoughts as well, only took Peat here because he was epic value. The two OTs I'm (realistically) hoping for in round 3 are Cedric Ogbuehi (who I love and will only fall because of the knee) and Donovan Smith (who I think is a plug and play Right Tackle, who even if he struggles will end up an excellent Guard). The DE's I like in round 2 are Hunter, Orchard, Owa, in that order (Owa I worry about the hip surgeries)

I'd still probably prefer bringing in Jake Long and allowing him to compete with Kevin Pamphile since that would allow us to go WR in round 3.
