With the 56th pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select Raekwon McMillan, Linebacker, Ohio State.
You want a linebacker, Raider Nation? It'z Yours! This will bring the middle of our defense Back in the Game.
This former five-star recruit won the Butkus Award in high school and was a finalist in college. He was the leading tackler on one of the best defenses in the country for the past two years. Team captain, great leader, shows up early, stays late, loves the game of football, praiseworthy intangibles. Raekwon is tough as a Gravel Pit. He ran the third-fastest 40 yard dash among linebackers at the combine, feet buzzing like an Uzi. Raekwon happened to also be in the top five linebackers in every athletic drill. Raekwon is the most technically sound inside linebacker in this class. He doesn't make great highlight reel tackles, because he just very routinely and clinically takes the runner down. But he is excellent at getting the ball carrier on the ground; ballcarriers had better Protect Ya Neck if they know what's good for them. For defensive and linebacking purists, The Heart Gently Weeps when watching him play. Some question his athleticism and whether he's a great pass defender, but we feel that he's the CREAM of the linebacker crop. Ohio State made the decision to blitz him instead of drop him in coverage, but that's just his Method, Man. Don't worry, he's good at both.
We had a few offers to trade down, but with Raekown here. Can It All Be So Simple? Yes it can.
Needless to say, we feel this pick is a Triumph.
