40 days before Philly

I thought I'd start a thread for us to group together all our thoughts and comments leading up to the draft.

Here's a comment for you. What would you think if Tampa took Reddick and Willis as our first two picks? Everybody you knew we werent going to get came true, except our new SLB pass rushing specialist. Then they go after Willis to totally make the left side of our defense crushing, not to mention being able to be very creative on third downs.

OK let it rip.

We need a SLB and Reddick would be good value.

A DE in rd 2 that isn't an edge bender is something I'd be less excited about. Willis tested well, but plays like a late day 2 pick imo. Lawson or Tim Williams are 2 EDGE guys I'd like if we drafted that position in rd 2.

We could go in multiple different directions early and I'm probably going to be ok with whoever we draft. I feel pretty good as a Bucs fan going into the draft. Almost like we're a good team.

I might be alone on this thought but when I'm thinking explosive playmakers --- I'm thinking defense!

I would be fine if it was in the defensive backfield.

I'm on board with going BPA round 1, but priority #1 in this draft has to be rebuilding our run game.

For the good of Winston, the good of this offense, the good of Koetter, and the good of this team. We MUST find a run game.

So, your saying we should go BPA, "but" we wont because you want something else.

*Yeah I know your not alone in that line of thinking.

Yes Willis tested well. The 2nd fastest ten yard split for the entire combine? That says to me you work with him on his other faults.

I want to go BPA round 1. But if that player doesn't help the run game, I'd want for us to dedicate Day 2 to the run game.

Most of this crop of RB's arent even as good as Bobby Rainey.

If you sincerely believe that, consider yourself in the slim minority.

I imagine we will see about 6-8 impactful running backs from this draft class by the end of the season. Hopefully we have one of them.

And hopefully, we're too smart to overpay (draft-wise) for him.

I'm thinking, when day 2 comes around and their isnt a better player for us than a running back - something happened - 31 other teams agreed with me...

The FO agreeing with you doesn't make it "smart".

What I expect? It sucks that we are so spread out with our picks because I feel like I know these players I like will fly off the board. My best case scenario we end up with a top CB group and a good DE added to our rotation.

What are your thoughts on Teez Tabor? I know he's not rated as low as the players you love to cover but do you think it's possible he falls to our pick in the 2nd?

Originally, I thought would we think about pairing him with Hargreaves. Now? I'm thinking that combine workout should be worrisome. Is he doing anything at his pro day?

How important to you is getting a defensive end in this draft?

Who would be your realistic options and what round?

not important to me at all. With gholston, ayers, spence, smith we have a good combo of size and speed. Ryen russell and channing ward as camp bodies. Wait and use a high pick on a guy in the future rather than a developmental guy this year.

If we can snag a guy in rd2 I'd be fine with it. I keep seeing names like Carl Lawson and Tim Williams there in most mocks. There are others also in what looks like a deep class of EDGE defenders.

Jaq Smith is coming off an ACL injury and will be an UFA at the end of the season also. So getting another young edge rusher to pair with Noah Spence in our sub package makes sense.

Defensive end isn't a large need for us. Assuming injuries don't totally screw the Bucs over, I think we have a solid rotation. That's said, if the board shakes out so that there is are god defensive ends available at our selections, I am not against adding talented young passrushers.

Defensive line is very important, second only to me to offensive line in this draft.

Not all "impactful" running backs are made the same.
I'd happily overpay to land a probowl RB like Lynch in the first over a probowl RB like Marion Barber III in the 4th.

So what to do with jac smith? Cut him? Trade him? Keep a 5th DE?

Yes..A team can NEVER have too many guys that can sack the opposing QB..

And we ran with 5 last year,no?

Gholston
Ayers
Spence
Smith
Motherfucker Jones

I feel like it's just a matter of time before Smith is on IR again. Might as well get a guy that can develop behind him. Taco could be interesting. He might go top 15 but I think his talent and tape should put him our range. Teams might fall in love with the what if of him though. But if he goes higher it just pushes another talent down.

I think generally we should be rooting for teams to go QB crazy of the big 3 this draft. That basically turns our 19 into a 16 for the talent pool we care about.

Keep 5 DEs. Gholston and Ayers can slide inside.

We usually keep 9-10 Dlinemen on the 53 with 8 dressing on gameday.

So 4 DTs and 5 DEs

first game. Think smith was hurt on his very first play. The next week i think we activated devonte lambert in smiths place. Towards the end of the year russell was getting snaps. So yeah, kinda hard to figure out what type of 5th DE we are looking for.

He had 1 special teams snap and 1 defensive snap.

Is our pick in a prime slot for somebody wanting an offensive tackle? I guess we will see if any OT needy teams are willing to compensate or just prep some other tackle farther down.
