Pick a player

Postby mdb1958 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 7:25 am

Doesnt matter if you figure out a trade down or not, pick the guy that would be a major surprise for our first pick.

I'll go with Evan Engram TE/WR

Now if he dropped, I guess Haason Reddick LB would be a huge surprise.

Christian McCaffrey.

There's been a lot of talk about Dalvin Cook. IMO, RBs are a dime/dozen in the NFL so I'd be against drafting one with our first. That being said, I would be surprised if we drafted McCaffrey and very disappointed.

Engram is a great choice, I actually really like him and think he'd be a great pick at 19 if our top targets are gone.

At 19, there are definitely some darkhorse possibilities. I've mentioned him before, but Kamara could be one.

Reuben Foster if he is there would be shocking in a good way.

At this point I have seen most every top 40 pick mocked to the Bucs, either by the pros or by the people on this forum.

The only surprise to me at this point would be a quarterback.

For the sake of being different, I'd say drafting Marlon Humphrey as a safety would be an interesting surprise move.

I think the odds of the Bucs taking a linebacker at 19 are non-existent.

This ^^

We could literally draft any prospect in the top 40 that is NOT a QB and it shouldn't be much of a surprise.

RBF had a good post somewhere earlier that showed our current depth chart and my takeaway from that was that we are pretty much good to go for the 2017 season.

Sure we could use some young talent for the O-line, WR, RB, or the secondary. But this by far the best the roster has looked in March in recent memory in terms of overall talent and depth. We certainly are not relying on Day 1-2 picks to come in and start week 1 like we have every year for the past decade+.

I think a surprise pick that they could take at 19, that I had them taking in the second round of my last mock...

Greg Auman: Bucs are at Kansas State pro day to day to check out DE Jordan Willis, who also has a top-30 visit set up to Tampa.
Greg Auman: Jordan Willis had 11.5 sacks as a @KStateFB senior, had 2nd-fastest combine 40 time among DL at 4.53, 2nd-best vertical at 39 inches.

He'd give the Bucs the second athletic, speed rusher to go with Spence, complemented by two bigger DEs in Gholston and Ayers.

Showing him as 72nd overall. Might be a third round target.

Willis seems like a combine warrior to me. Too stiff and doesn't bend well enough coming off the edge. Edge players have to be able to bend the edge and play with leverage while doing so. I don't see that from Willis. If he did, he's be a top 15 pick with his size and athletic testing.

I think Willis is a day 2 pick. He's a slightly smaller but quicker version of Will Gholston. Wouldn't surprise me to see him be a solid NFL player for the nest decade, but not a 10 sack type of guy.

I think Willis is the number one defensive end for us that we could get.

A QB or PK. No other position or player would shock me. Not a fan of Howard but it wouldn't surprise me if we took him. Depending on how the board pans out I might actually expect it.

I hear LeGrande put up a 7.8 second 40 at the combine.

Earl was timed in days.

Daniel Jeremiah (March 13): CB Chidobe Awuzie, Colorado

A prime example of looking all the way back to our 2nd pick to decide who might be the player that we would really hate to miss out on...

Could this be the draft to start building the greatest secondary we have ever had?

The thought of Kevin King is really growing on my mind. He would really be good matching us up with the NFC South receivers.

KSU homer here, and this. None of that low 4.5 shows up on film in pads. He has a good motor and is a solid character guy, but not an elite pass rush prospect, imo. He does not bend and turn corners anything like Spence. He is not quick off the snap. I doubt I would take him with our second pick.

KSU guys I am hoping we look at are Elijah Lee (OLB) in the 6th/7th and Dante Barnett (SS) as an undrafted signing.

Ok lets say you and Dread are right for a minute - ok times up, why would some prognosticators have him going as a late first rounder. I still wish we could get him as a 3rd rounder.

Because he tested freakishly well and he has a lot of positive qualities. Coach Snyder raves about his character and work ethic. I'm sure he interviews well. His film shows a high motor. He stayed on the field and was productive. His frame and athletic testing suggest natural progression into 4-3 or 3-4 defenses. For the 4-3 teams, he took every college snap with hand on ground. For 3-4 teams, he cut weight post season down into 250's and tested like an elite OLB. I get why he is rising, but I don't grade him on the field as a top 50 prospect.
