If a lanky WR can't bench 225 more than a few times but makes plays I'm not concerned.

But if you're a defensive player or anyone in the trenches and you're below the minimum threshold/band of your peer group it's likely due to a lack of strength and/or you slacked in the weight room.

Not a deal breaker. But a red flag imo. Orlando Brown Jr is a recent exception to this recently.

Strength training is part of being a football player for most positions and bench pressing is a fundamental to strength training.

The entire process seems much more like, "Did the player study for his homework?" than, "These drills will tell us if he's a good player."

I just think that if a player measures outside of his peer group (in a substandard way) it begs the question why. Along with more questions.

Doesn't mean it automatically disqualifies them or makes them a bad football player.

For the most part I feel the combine just help teams check boxes on these prospects.

But like BA said when talking about OJ Howard, "measurables don't play football".

I get it as a tool, but you look at Orlando Brown...can you imagine trusting a test that indicates he isn't strong enough to play tackle?

I totally agree, more information is better than less. But I like that BA quote. It's simple and it's true.

I sure hope these big board/prospect lists get closer together on things. Right now, it's like whoever is making donations can get some players shined up.

Kevin Durant couldn't bench 185 even once.

That's not surprising based on his build.

He's also not a football player.

usc said "professional athlete". But agree, football is obviously different.

Wills. Guy can just step in and be a beast at RT. He's a sure thing stud.

Kinlaw ovbviously has sky high potential, but he's got some things to iron out. I don't know how coachable he is, but development is never guaranteed.

Maybe after the combine someone can stand with Derrick Brown who seems all by himself.

Kyle Dugger will go down as our greatest 2nd round pick ever.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's a first rounder, to be honest. If he makes it to the mid-second, I'd be surprised.

He's a very, very interesting prospect.

Will he be better than, say, Drew Brees, Mel Renfro, Paul Krause, Brett Favre, Michael Strahan, Mike Singletary...let me think...Biletnikoff...Jack Ham...The Ghost To The Post...Jim Taylor...Gronk...

It's possible, but, ummm, I'd take the bet.

EDIT - I did not see the "OUR" part. Apologies to MDB!

Also, he'd need to be better than Ali Marpet, Lavonte David, BK, Mark Alstatt, Randy Grimes, The House, and some dude named Wilder. Off the top of my head.

So I'd still take that bet!

I get what you're trying to say. 225 is not a lot and if you are the cream of the crop of athletes, even the bottom of the cream, you'd think you could lift 225lb more than 12 times.
