Ichabod's Monday Analysis: Week 4

Postby IchabodCrane84 » Mon Oct 01, 2018 6:35 am

Stay humble right? Damn, the season wasn’t on the line this week, but it certainly feels over. At what point do you just stop insulting the defense? Well I got a dozen of them below before I decided to quit.

Likes:
1.) Jason Pierre-Paul on that one 3 and out series we stopped the Bears’ offense.

Dislikes:
1.) Alright, elephant in the room. Conte was keeping this defense together.
2.) Can we activate Brenston Buckner?
3.) ****, can we promote him to D-Coordinator? (Wrote this one early. Was unaware it’d actually gain traction)
4.) I’m very surprised we didn’t put Jameis Winston in… on defense.
5.) Kyle Orton had a pity party yesterday as he was the last Bears quarterback to throw two touchdowns against the Buccaneers.
6.) Maybe this was Arthur Blank’s long con in firing Mike Smith.
7.) If our defense needs a nickname, might I suggest Wide Open.
8.) At least a backup quarterback didn’t light us up.
9.) Brent Crimes?
10.) Yes Mitchell Trubisky outrushed our running backs.
11.) Who is 86? And why is he holding on punts?
12.) RoJo drops what he should catch and catch what he should drop.
13.) And to cap it off, with nothing to lose, with the ability to let it loose. Jameis looked pedestrian.

Random:
1.) A side effect of Chantix is it gives you intense nightmares. And they thought making Ray Liotta your spokesperson was a good idea?
2.) Why don’t horrible football players get commentating jobs? I think Jason Maniecki would make a fantastic color guy.
3.) What happened to touchdown celebrations? (Not that I wanted to see Chicago celebrate)

Overall:
I mean, it’s just one game right? Could be the season though, could be the end of Koetter. I blamed Lovie for games like this. Blamed him for not firing his son. Koetter is just as accountable. Do something about it or get out.

Thanks for posting this.

I think this is the beginning of the end for Koetter. The defense has talent, but it is not playing well. The common denominator is Smith. Koetter is responsible for Smith.

Sorry Ichy but seems this loss has affected fans as well. Thanks for posting but this one will not be mentioned in your hall of fame speech.

The defense was so bad I don't even know where to start, or end. It was so bad it covers for how bad the offense was.

The TD pass to Allen Robinson in the corner to make it 14-0 (iirc) was the only real tight window throw Trubisky made. Other than that it was just playing pitch and catch with guys running wide open. I'd call it 7v7, but atleast you play defense in 7v7. I'm not sure what that was, but I've never seen that many blown assignments in pass coverage by an NFL defense.

Offense was terrible also. We have a MAJOR problem at RG. It's been a problem every game since Week 2 and Benenoch aint the guy. Not sure if Evan Smith is either and Cappa doesn't seem ready. Not good.

I don't even care about the QB issue, not that there is one at this point imo. Nobody should blame Fitz for yesterday (I don't think people are), but it is what it is. We're 2-2 heading into the bye which before the season most fans would've taken.

The ever so slight silver lining is that Vea, Rojo, and Jameis all got some live action. None where either great or terrible, but the reps they got are a bonus. All 3 guys will need to big parts of this team once we get back from the bye week imo.

Hopefully Howard's injury isn't bad. We got the bye week to get him healthy for big bounce back game @Atlanta week 6. We'll need all our weapons if we're going to win with this defense.

Speaking of defense, I don't want to be reactionary but keeping Mike Smith is indefensible. The body of work is what it is. As someone mentioned that 6-7 game streak in 2016 when our defense was playing well was obviously a mirage that we've been chasing. It can't be worse then what Mike Smith's unit has out in tape and someone has to be accountable imo.

Week 6 will be a turning point for this Bucs team in 2018. Lose and we're destined for a 6-7 win season and new coaching staff (maybe FO also), win and we can maybe get back on the right track. Lot's of work to do defense to say the least.

Also,

MJ Stewart isnt built as a slot corner. he's just not quick or agile enough, imo. id look at moving davis into the slot and mj to the outside during the bye. just my opinion though. cant be worse than what mike smith is producing right now, right ?

I agree with that. Wrote it during the second half for the most part. Should've waited, but it was clear for the first time in awhile that things weren't going to change in the second half.

What a **** show...

But hey we would all sign up for 2-2 before the season started right? Unfortunately this debacle leaves a bad taste...

Last week, Conte got beat up and embarrassed by the opposing team.

This week, it was the rest of the defense's turn.
