***2018 Official NFL Season Thread***

Postby DreadNaught » Wed Aug 22, 2018 11:08 am

The offseason if over (Thank god) so let's gets this started. This thread is for generic football discussion about the NFL's 31 other teams.

I encourage folks to start individual threads for topics they believe warrant any kind of extended discussion, but this thread is more for random injury news, highlights, comments, etc on games/teams throughout the season.

Pats released WR Kenny Britt.

With Edlemen suspended the first 4 game the Pats top WR will be;

Chris Hogan
Cordelle Patterson
Phillip Dorsett
Eric Decker

They still have Gronk of course. But still, it's amazing they take WRs literally off the scrap heap other teams gave away and Brady makes them serviceable.

They have to. The ones they draft haven't done as well.

They drafted a guy out of Marshall one year and he washed out after a season or two. Forgot his name, but he was a good prospect.

Aaron Dobson I think.

Yep. It's honestly quite amazing that they get so much production out of recycled players yet Belichick's draft record isn't as great as you'd expect.

Yep. They've drafted three Day Two receivers over the last 12 drafts - Aaron Dobson (2nd), and Taylor Price and Brandon Tate, both in the 3rd. The last time they used a 1st rounder on a receiver was the late Terry Glenn in 1996.

It's important to note that they throw to their backs more than any team in the league, of course. My quick math yields they were 2nd only to the Saints in RB targets last year. I'm not sure any team relies on their wide receivers less in the pass game.

Yes, the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. I don't even want to imagine what that feels like.

The #Raiders have waived S Obi Melifonwu, a former 2nd rounder. He’s been injured, but they also never quite felt he loved football enough.

MDB thought we should have drafted him in the 1st instead of OJ.

Damn--one year, five games for the second round pick. That's it. I understand that's more likely to happen when a new regime comes in, but it's still very early to give up on someone with that much talent.

He's got more than enough physical ability to get a look from a considerable amount of teams. I wouldn't mind if one of the teams is us. If he doesn't love football enough, then he'll end up another Taylor Mays. If the Raiders assessment was wrong, then some team could potentially benefit.

Good call, my memory sucks today for some reason. I just looked up some awesome draft takes from 2017. It was MDB that was a the Obi fanboy here. Not surprisingly AO predicted Obi would be a "steal of the draft".

Sorry RBF..

Talent without effort is worthless -or- Work beats talent when talent doesn't work.

For context, Obi lasted about the same amount of time with the Raiders as Aguayo did here with the Bucs.

I 100% agree--however, hard work may not actually be the issue. A team will be willing to take a risk because of his talent just to see if effort really is the issue or if it's just not being able to play the game at the professional level for any number of other reasons.

I took my fair share of dumps on Obi prior to the draft, but apparently he's injured (again) and the team doesn't feel that he loves football. They were around him every day. They know him best.

Here's hoping he rebounds, but I can't say that his career trajectory is particularly surprising.

At least he's no Christian Hackenberg
