Why couldn't licht grab some guys from the CFL?

Postby tjax03 » Mon May 21, 2018 7:37 pm

Or more nfl teams in general. Why not get the best pass rusher, safety or offensive lineman in the cfl? Im sure he is still better than a 4th or 5th round rookie.

Is there a rule of some sort where this isnt allowed?

Because the players in the CFL are washouts and players who couldn't make rosters. Rarely some make it back in the NFL, but for the most part they simply aren't talented enough, certainly not better than most 4th or 5th round rookies.

Sometimes it works out, like Warren Moon or Cameron Wake. Mostly it doesn't.

Some of them have binding contracts that precludes them from just jumping ship until the contract is done. It was mentioned that the contract Manziel signed is like that, he's in the CFL for two years even if Hoodie offered him Tom Brady's job.

Some receiver in Arena football named Larry Brackins has something like 190 career touchdowns. I'd be willing to give him a look.

Do you realize the CFL version of football is quite a bit different?

You mentioned pass rushers--defensive linemen lineup a full yard from the ball. This gives them a quicker burst towards their opposition and gives them a little more time to diagnose a play, but those advantages are negated from being 36 inches away from the LOS as opposed to just 11 inches. The offensive linemen they go up against are smaller and quicker because of this difference too.

In this example, you could get a pass rusher, but he has major adjustments going into an NFL training camp already, even if he played American Football before. They are used to utilizing their quick burst and having the extra time to read a play, and going up against a more evenly matched opponent in terms of athletic abilities. They get to an NFL training camp, against a linemen who is more acclimated for American Football, the pass rusher may be quicker, but he is usually outpaced in strength, and the burst he's used to is within a short distance, so he's not getting as much pop off the snap.

There's other significant differences too, such as the size of the field, ball, players, etc. but this one stands out to me.

Every NFL team scouts the entire CFL and many of the 'top' CFL guys catch onto the 90man rosters in the offseason heading into TC.

Most don't make it, which is why they are in the CFL to begin with.

The implication that the Bucs or any other NFL team doesn't look into CFL talent is absurd. If teams are scouting places like Hobart Collage and Humbolt State, I guarantee they are scouting the CFL. In fact I think the Bucs has a WR from the CFL in camp last year.

This is a brilliant idea. I'm not sure why no other NFL GM ever thought to scout other professional football leagues. You should delete this post so other GMs don't see it. Just call 1BP directly, tell them you need to speak to Licht.

Yes, Derel Walker I believe was his name.

They also just cut Jeff Knox a couple days ago, a CFL linebacker.

They also have Antony Auclair, Canadian born, raised, educated, drafted, the whole nine.

Auclair's biggest knock was that he was Canadian

He doesn't have that nasty streak. You can't dominate a defensive lineman when you're constantly saying "Sorry."

That's absurd. He's most certainly saying "Pardôn"!

This thread is too funny. Also, idk what the records are in the CFL but 190 TDs is impressive.
