2nd Round Options

Postby BUCCABEER » Thu Apr 26, 2018 10:05 pm

We have 3 picks in the second round, who can we realistically get and fill needs on OL, RB, and DB?

Sony Michel is my favorite. Mike Hughes, Rasheem Green. Josh Jackson, Will Hernandez are still available.

Vea at 12 is a bit of a luxury pick, would have taken James there myself, but don't mind the value and love the 2 2nds added. In terms of Day 2, really hope we address some needs.

At 38, I think I would target one of Jackson or Oliver at CB with Penny off the board. Then get whoever is left of Jones/Guice/Chubb with one of those late 2nds, and then a Safety with the other.

Would love to grab Hernandez with our first pick. Then add Nick Chubb and top rated DB left with our two 2 2nds.

Really love the position Licht left us in for tomorrow.

When your d-line is as bad as it has been, it is never a luxury to add more to it. Plus our depth at DT is the poorest it's been in years before this, if we had an injury to McCoy we are looking at Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein all year. I know there's other positions to address, but getting two 2nd round picks give us the ability to address multiple needs, most of which have depth in this draft so we'll still get good players.

My Top Ten:

1) Will Hernandez - He's going to be one of the best run blockers in the league.
2) Derrius Guice - He's going to be this draft's leading career rusher.
3) Josh Jackson - Number one cornerback talent.
4) Maurice Hurst - We still have a glaring need for another pass rushing tackle behind McCoy.
5) Courtland Sutton - My man! In a year, we likely won't have D-Jax or Hump anymore. Two at most. Evans/Sutton/Godwin would be amazing.
6) Connor Williams - He could be our next right tackle. Or our opening day guard. Or both.
7) Isaiah Oliver - He could develop into one of the league's better corners.
8) Braden Smith - Opening day guard.
9) Justin Reid - Opening day strong safety.
10) Ronald Jones - He'd be a great lightning to Barber's thunder.

Honorable Mention: Austin Corbett, Ronnie Harrison, several right tackle prospects

A luxury pick in the sense that we didn't need Vea. Don't mind the value at 12, love the 2nds, but we could have been fine without taking him.

I would have gone with James and looked for Hurst in round 2, but I can't hate the pick. Vea can and will do a lot for us. The trade back was the clearly correct call and it free us up to address a lot of needs in the next round. We should be able to land a great back and several DB's. Something tells me that One Buc isn't looking too closely at OL though. I'll be surprised if we draft one, with the possible exception of a replacement for Sweezy if they think he won't stay healthy.

Licht always seems to go rogue in the second. Tomorrow should be interesting.

Here's one:

Would you trade our three 2nd rounders for Cleveland's two?

I would, and I'd take Jackson with the first pick and Guice with the third.

On this we agree.

Hopefully Cleveland sees Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson and says, "No, we're good."

It's Indy that seems more likely, though I think they really like Marlon Mack honestly. But they will draft him a buddy at some point.

Sorry I wasn't very clear on that.

I mean taking Jackson with the first pick of the 2nd round, and then Guice with the third pick of the 2nd round. As we'd get picks one and three in the 2nd round in exchange for our existing three 2nd round picks (in this hypothetical situation).

We currently have picks 6, 21, and 24 in the second round. I'd want to see them stand pat and not trade up. This draft is deep. We could walk away with three excellent players here.

Were it up to me, I'd ideally want our three picks to be a running back, corner/safety, and guard/tackle. Going for another D-lineman also couldn't hurt.

Given that our last pick in the second round is 24, here are 24 players in those position groups of relatively higher need. I fully expect all three second rounders to be on this list:

- Running Backs: Derrius Guice, Ronald Jones, Kerryon Johnson, Nick Chubb
- Offensive Linemen: Will Hernandez, James Daniels, Connor Williams, Austin Corbett
- Defensive Linemen: Harold Landry, Rasheem Green, Mo Hurst, Harrison Phillips, Lorenzo Carter
- Corners: Josh Jackson, Carlton Davis, Isaiah Oliver, Donte Jackson
- Safeties: Justin Reid, Jessie Bates, Ronnie Harrison, Tarvarius Moore
- Wildcards: Courtland Sutton (WR), Arden Key (DE), Orlando Brown (OT)

Needs to change and thats why Jason should keep an open mind. I'd rather work Reid into the 2nd and not worry about homeruns with a running back.

It makes too much sense for NY. Pair him with their shiny new toy and it instantly makes their team better. There was a run on Centers in the first round...I'm shocked Hernandez is still there. Only reason Cleveland may not take him is because they may pick Connor Williams for his ability to also play Tackle. Or they could double down at CB. Unfortunate scenario for us either way if we're looking for Guice, Hernandez, or Josh Jackson (Guice because Indy picks twice before we do).

My shortlist for the Bucs' first 2nd rounder (in no particular order just yet) is Derrius Guice, Will Hernandez, Connor Williams, Josh Jackson, Isaiah Oliver, and then I'm torn on Maurice Hurst, Sam Hubbard, and Harold Landry.

I doubt they'd go with another DT, but long-term that seems like a foolish reason to pass on Hurst if his medical checked out. Landry is really intriguing, even if he isn't an obvious position fit, but apparently he has some medical red flags?

Just posted this in the draft thread but I'll move it over here.

Wanna throw some names out there we haven't been talking about much that are possibilities tonight.

Saftey
Ronnie Harrison from Alabama would be a very smart pick
Kyzir White from West Virginia.
Justin Reid from Stanford
Jessie Bates from Wake Forest

Corner
Quentin Meeks from Stanford
Carlton Davis from Auburn
Donte Jackson from LSU
Duke Dawson from Florida is a bit of a long shot and is better suited for S IMO

Guard
Slim pickings after Hernandez in this range
Braden Smith from Auburn
Wyatt Teller from VT
I'm going to throw in James Daniels from Iowa here even though he's a Center

Offensive Tackle
Brian O'Neil is a solid RT that is underappreciated because he's a RT
Chukwuma Okorafor from Western Michigan
Orlando Brown from Oklahoma who I'm not crazy about

Edge
Harold Landry from Boston College
Sam Hubbard from Ohio State
Lorenzo Carter from Georgia
Arden Key is still out there

Running Backs
Ronald Jones from USC who isn't a favorite of mine
Kerryon Johnson from Auburn whose only concern to me is durability
Royce Freeman from Oregon will be in range and if we take him, he has to wear #5.
Kalen Ballage from Arizona State is a guy some around here like

All that is on top of the obvious guys like Darrius Guice and Nick Chubb
