Charles Sims: Back

Postby MJW » Thu Apr 26, 2018 8:39 am

On a one year deal, per Rick Stroud.

So that happened.

I predict this will absolutely be the busiest thread on the board today. Not a doubt in my mind.

Anyway...I'm surprised because it seemed like Dirk Koetter lost all interest in him last year.

I was pretty sure I read that the Bucs wanted him back but he wanted to test the market. I'm glad he's back as I think he's really good at everything except running the ball.

Koetter has always liked Sims and imo Koetter is loyal to fault with his RBs b/c he wants to ensure the guy back there can be trusted not to get his QB killed, which is why it took so long for Peyton Barber to get a heavy workload.

If Sims can stay healthy he's a solid 3rd down RB option. But you can find Charles Sims types of players anywhere tbh, so it's whatever.

Yea, I don’t think he’s a guarantee to make the final roster. It I’m glad he’s back for camp at least.

Still can’t believe we spent a 3rd on him...

Not just a 3rd...the "Darrelle Revis" third. It would have really helped that whole situation going down if we'd NAILED that pick. But Sims is fine. He has a role. He can contribute. He's a reasonable compliment to Barber, if we don't end up upgrading in the next three days.

He's excellent in pass protection and he's a very good receiver. They can put him on the field and be confident he won't get Jameis killed and that he'll catch the ball when they throw it to him. I think it's likely he makes the team because it takes young RBs a long time to be capable blockers.

I don’t think he makes the 53, he’s always hurt and he’s made little to no impact when he’s healthy. He was completely worthless last year. I really want to see the RB position upgraded this weekend because this trio of bums we have just don’t cut it.

He’s very effective on 5th downs and in the 6th quarter.

If I am not mistaken, we only had Barber and Quizz under contract coming in. We needed to add more than one back, so we sign Sims. This in no way precludes us from taken a back and i dont think it knocks us out of the Barkley sweepstakes either. All we have is three vets who are at best, JAGs.

We are all but certain to draft a back in rounds 1-4.
