Tony Dungy: Ring of Honor?

Postby NYBF » Fri Apr 20, 2018 11:02 pm

With the Week 3 game being the ROH game, Ric Stroud thinks so.

The guy brought Bucs their 1st SB ...well deserved.

Unlike other coaches who like ready made teams.

The Glazers have definitely perfected how to bring coaches in for interviews while Koetter is still the coach.

Fixed it for you.

Dungy and Kiffin made the most influential defense in 30 years while in Tampa.

Dungy is trash. Gruden made that team!

Dungy won with Kiffin's defense. Remind me again the great defense Dungy built in Indy? How he won just one superbowl with one of GOATs and best offenses the league has ever had. He clearly didn't build an offense while in Tampa and he didn't build much of a defense while in Indy, so tell me just what the hell does Dungy do besides luck out and say all the right things?

You're gonna get lambasted for this post but ya aint wrong...

However I feel the same way about Gruden too...

I just don't understand the concept that in order to cement our 2002 SB we HAVE to have an all time NFL/Buc great HC responsible or at the forefront of our trip down memory lane..

We had a FANTASTIC group of players..isn't that enough?

Think folks debate the HC greatness of Gary Kubiak up in Denver?..I mean he won a SB, right?..or was it because he won with John Fox's team...

See how ridiculous this **** is?

Dungy hired Kiffin, Tony drafted the defense.

Oh, well, I guess if he hired him he gets auto-cred for everything he did. Makes sense.
Half the SB winning team was brought in by Gruden and the pillars of the defense were actually drafted by Sam Wyche, so try again.

Dunn, Barber, kelly, booger, and a whole lot of nothing else.

If only our current GM was as good at getting talent.

Alstott was a great pick, but yeah.

Wyche drafted the heart of the defense. History has shown Kiffin was the primary architect of those defenses. Gruden turned over literally half of the roster in his first year.

Tons of respect for Dungy, and he belongs in the ROH, but his legacy in Tampa is largely overstated.

I think he belongs in the ROH of our hearts, but that's about it. You can't give the RoH to a coach who won two playoff games in six years. Not to mention called one of the worst time outs of all time. Like, come on, lets have some standards.

The heart doesn't have a ring of honor. As a doctor you should know that.

Yup, yup. Sam Wyche is an underrated name around here. He likely would have made us relevant given time. Not sure the defense would have been the same though, without Dungy/Kiffin and their Tampa 2.

And though Kiffin ran the T2 to perfection it was Dungy who designed it by combining an under front with the old Steelers trick of making s cover 3 with a dropping MLB. Dungy does deserve to be in the ROH but he is a bit overrated.
