Which former Buc would you add to the current roster!?

Postby bahamian:bucfan » Mon Apr 09, 2018 11:25 pm

Hi guys,
I pray that everything is well with everyone!

While in the shower I was thinking; "which former Buc player (in their prime) would I add to our roster now".

So we all know what the roster is like at the moment and the draft is right around the corner. Taking these into consideration; which former buc would you add to the current roster AND why would you add them?

NOTE: Once a player was on the bucs roster they are eligible. AND, if their prime years was not with the bucs: that is the version of the player that will be on the roster. Case in point; Revis' best years was around 2009 when he played for the Jets so if you choose him, that is the version of Revis we will be getting.

Mark Allstatt.

He gives us everything we’re currently lacking in the run game.

Flipside: Rhondè Barber.

He gives us everything we need at CB.

Sapp. I don’t care how many DTs you signed in the off-season or how you think he might gel with McCoy. Generational talents outweigh whatever your current roster situation might be.

Sabby Piscitelli. Then we wouldn’t have to watch Conte on the field!

Just kidding. Give me Big Sapp.

Prime Rice is exactly what this defense needs, but I too would go with Sapp.

Thats a tough question.

Do i have enough faith left in McCoy to take someone other than #99 ?

Simeon Rice is about the safest pick because our need for that dominate (to me, hall of fame) pass rusher.

When I think of our defense now, we need help in secondary as we went defensive line heavy. Ronde Barber would be taken into serious consideration.

I think my pick though, is a guy that will never get the kudos he deserved. he was Joe Thomas before Joe Thomas. Paul Gruber would be my pick.

I love Simeon Rice, think he’s one of the most underrated players ever, but I think it has to be Selmon.

1. Selmon
2. Sapp
3. Rice

I'm assuming we're getting them anew right? In which case can I ask the Barber people if they completely forgot about a guy named Darrelle Revis?

If I could add a former Buc it'd be Jon Gruden.

I'm surprised it took this long to say. A prime Lee Roy with JPP on the other side and McCoy in the middle with Beau Allen eating up blockers is a nasty d-line.

Unfortunately some of us never got to watch Selmon. I almost want to pick him for that reason alone. Just to be able to actually watch him.

Sapp was more than just production. trying to play chess with this question and pretending all pieces are equal is fail. We need a dog on this team of pussycats.

I had some time to think about this question. So taking into consideration our current roster and the draft; I came up with four candidates. They are:

Warren Sapp: Like someone said, he is a once in a generation type of player. You can either play him alongside Mccoy and/or you could have Mccoy come in to give him a breather. But in any event, Sapp would HAVE to be double teamed. Thus leaving one on ones for Jpp, Curry, Mccoy. I am certain Sapp will allow Curry and Jpp to get double digit sacks and may be even Mccoy. Our sorry secondary would even look respectable. Also, he would just bring a nastiness/winning attitude to this team that is sorely missing. Not to mention getting 10 plus sacks.

Simeon Rice: Like I have said many times, one of the most underrated nfl players period! This dudes pass rush was just special. I know that we got Jpp and Curry to help out our pathetic pass rush (which they should do BUT Jpp +Curry < Rice! Rice on the right and Jpp on the left……………oh my God! And once he needs a breather send in Curry so that the pressure never stops. Again, this would automatically make our 2ndary better. Prime Rice is good for 15 sacks and about 5 ff……….you cannot beat that!

CarL Nicks: I know this one may surprise a few people BUT did you guys see the way he man handled dlinemen in his prime. This dude is the Warren Sapp equivalent for the oline, just nasty! Put him on this line and running lanes would open up like the red sea. In pass protection, nothing is coming up the middle. Also, if Mr Smith gets in trouble, Nicks would be able to help him out. Can you imagine this offense if Winston can stand in the pocket as long as qb’s did against us last year! Winston would throw for 6000 yards!

Derrelle Revis: I did not think about Revis until someone mentioned him in this thread. And corner back is a glaring need on this roster. Revis was the BEST shut down corner I have ever seen play during his prime (yes even better than NEON DEION)! His 2009 season in particular was beyond special. He took on the best wide receivers in their prime and he absolutely dominated. His 2009 season imho, put him strait in the hall of fame. Here is who he played that year and their stats against Revis:

Andre Johnson = 4 catches, 35 yards and no touchdowns ( led the league in receiving yards with 1,569 on 101 receptions and a career-high 9 td’s in 2009)
Randy Moss ( 1st match up) = 4 catches, 24 yards, no touchdown
Marques Colston = 2 catches, 33 yards, no touchdowns ( scored nine td’s in 2009 and recorded 1,074 receiving yards.)
Terrell Owens (1st match up) = 3 catches, 13 yards and no touchdowns
Mike Sims-Walker = 2 catches, 23 yrds, no td’s (63 catches, 869 yds, 7 td’s for the season)
Randy Moss ( 2nd match up) = 5 catches, 34 yards and one touchdown (He finished the season with 83 receptions for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns)
Steve Smith = 1 catch, 5 yards (finished 2009 with 982 yrds , 65 catches and 7 td’s but missed last game of season)
Terrell Owens (2nd match up) = 3 catches, 31 yards (55 catches, 829yrds, 5 td’s in 2009)
Antonio Bryant = 2 catches, 22 yards (39 catches, 600 yrds, 4 td’s in injury filled 2009)
Roddy White = 4 catches, 33 yards ( finished the 2009 season with 85 catches, 1,153 yards, and a career-high 11 td’s)
Reggie Wayne = 3 catches, 33 yards (100 catches , 1264 yrds, 10 td’s in 2009)
Chad Ochocinco = 0 catches, 0 yards (72 catches, 1,047 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2009)

The other four games were against the dolphins twice, the Titans and the Raiders. None of these teams had a true #1 wr and they did NOTHING against Revis.
I honestly have no idea how anyone can question Revis’ need to be in the hall!

So back to the question, I think……aw……….I can’t believe I am going to write this but I think I would put Revis on the current roster.
We already addressed our dline and hopefully we can get Nelson in the first round.
With Revis, we would never have to worry about Julio going for 300 plus yards against us. In fact, we won’t have to worry about any teams #1 wr any more…………….

BUT………………..

Man, Sapps NASTINESS, SWAG, MENTAL TOUGHNESS, WINNING ATTITUDE, would just affect the entire team. This entire team would play on a different level just because of Sapp. Not to mention, Sapp would give us 10 plus sacks his self.

With the draft, just be smart and we will be more than ok!

After writing all of this………..Mr. Warren Sapp is my final answer. There is absolutely no other former buc that would elevate this current roster like Sapp. I am certain he will get us to atleast the nfcc.

This

It starts at the QB position

We may or may not have our guy with Winston

But I KNOW we would have our guy with Steve Young

and put him in the modern game with RPOs............

Thought about this too but so much of a QB success depends on the system, scheme, coaching staff, etc. IDK just how well Young would do under a DK system and regime. We could very well end up playing out that situation exactly the same. Having Bo (who wants to be here) would almost guarantee to work out.
